I greet you and bless you,

I respond to your letter of 29 Tammuz*. At a propitious moment, all those you cite will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, in conformity with what you write to me. It is no doubt unnecessary to explain to you at length that the means and the receptacle allowing one to receive the blessing of Hashem are a daily conduct that conforms to the teachings of our Torah*, Torah* of life, and to the practice of its Mitzvos*, of which it is said (note 1: Yechezkel* 20, 11 and 13, 21): "One shall live by them."

At your age, it is, above all, necessary to study, with enthusiasm and ardor, the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus* (note 2: This letter is presumably addressed to a student of the Yeshivah*), as I have already written to you, some time ago, in similar circumstances. And, "nothing can resist the will" (note 3: The Rebbe* notes, at the bottom of the page: "Zohar*, volume 2, page 162b"). With my blessing to give me good news of all this,

N. B.: You ask me about this saying of our Sages (note 3), "nothing can resist the will." You point out that the Sages also say that: "all is in the hands of Hashem except the fear of Hashem." However, I am surprised by such a question, for this saying alludes to the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, that is to say to the fear of Hashem. Now, all is in the hands of Hashem except it!

לפלא הקושיא, שהרי הפתגם הוא בנוגע לעניני תורה ומצות, היינו יראת שמים שאף שהכל בידי שמים, הר"ז חוץ מיראת שמים.
