To the Chassid who fears Hashem and faithfully fulfills his mission, Rav Y. HaCohen [1],

I greet and bless you,

Concerning the person about whom you ask me: you must explain to him that he must immediately begin putting on tefillin* every day, for this is the means through which his request will be answered.

I do not know what this man's level of knowledge is, but in any case, he should study the weekly Parshah with a commentary he can understand — which may be an English translation.

In addition, his father should recite Psalm 71 [2] every day, in addition to his other studies. He may say it at any hour of the day, but not during the first half of the night, since one does not recite Tehillim then.

The young man's mother, before lighting the Shabbos and Yom Tov candles, should give tzedakah* to a pushke* dedicated to Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes. The father and mother should commit to all of this, without making a vow, until Rosh Hashanah 5712.

I am enclosing the transcript of what was said on 10 Marcheshvan [3]. This will surely interest you.

I have just received your letter. Here, the tractates of the Talmud are distributed among those who study them on 24 Teves [6]. It would be good for you to complete the study of a tractate by that date. It may contain only a few folios.

במענה על שאלתו אודות... שי', הנה צריך להסביר לו אשר תיכף ומיד יתחיל להניח תפלין בכל יום, ובמצבו הפרטי הנה זהו גם סגולה להמבוקש הפרטי שלו. איני יודע על דבר ידיעותיו, אבל בכל אופן צריך ללמוד פרשת השבוע עם איזה פירוש המתאים לפניו, ויוכל להיות גם בהעתקה אנגלית.

נוסף על זה, הנה על אביו שי' להוסיף על שאר לימודיו אמירת קפיטל ע"א תהלים בכל יום, ויוכל לאמרו במשך היום, ובלבד שלא לאמרו בלילה קודם חצות שאז אין אומרים תהלים. ועל אם האברך הנ"ל שת' הנה קודם הדלקת נרות בערב שבת ויום טוב תתן לצדקה לקופת רמבעה"נ, ואביו ואמו שי' יקבלו עליהם את הנ"ל בלי נדר עד ראש השנה ה'תשי"ב הבע"ל.

אין הזמן גרמא להאריך בעניננו ופרטי העבודה באפריקה, אבל באתי בזה לשמחו בידיעה אשר הגיעו הרשימות הראשונות של תלמידי התלמוד תורה, תלמידי הישיבה, תלמידות ביה"ס לנערות, וחברי תפארת בחורים. כל המוסדות הנקראים בשם הכללי שקבענו להם - "אהלי יוסף יצחק" ות"ל מתפתחים על הצד היותר טוב.
