Greetings and blessings,

I was pleased to obtain news of you through the great and distinguished Rabbanim, Chassidim* who fear Hashem and devote themselves to communal needs with mesirus nefesh*, Rav Sh. Levitin and Rav E. Simpson. They reported to me that, in your home, the chinuch* you received from your father, who was one of the elders among the Chassidim of Lubavitch, is plainly evident.

This good news is the application, in everyday life, of the saying of our Sages: "when one shoots an arrow into the air, it falls back on its tip."

Here is the deep sense of this maxim. As a tree develops, its trunk and its branches move away from its roots. Moreover, it can sometimes seem that a branch has detached itself from the tree, chas v'shalom*, that it has become a piece of dry wood, totally separated from the roots.

But, in reality, a Jew never leaves his roots, and in fact this dry wood falls toward those roots. It suffices to find the appropriate people. They will know, with the right words, how to recall the existence of the roots.

I was happy to learn that this reminder, coming from outside, is unnecessary as far as your family is concerned. The light and warmth of the Chassidim, that you received as an inheritance from your parents, still illuminate you. I hope that they will strengthen and materialize, in the best way, through Torah and mitzvot.

My father-in-law the Rebbe explains that the Almighty never remains in debt. I therefore wish you, by the merit of the various contributions you will bring to tzedakah*, in particular that destined for the institutions of my father-in-law the Rebbe, that Hashem fulfill the wish of your hearts and grant you a child, that He satisfy all your desires, material and spiritual.

I will add that your wife should give, every eve of Shabbat and festival, before lighting the candles, tzedakah in a pushke* dedicated to Rabbi Meir Baal HaNess. You yourself, when putting on tefillin*, will remember that you are attached to my father-in-law the Rebbe. It is through this channel that you will obtain the blessing to have children.

חז״ל זרוק חוטרא לאוירא על עקרי׳ קאי ״ כאשר זורקים מקל לאויר הוא

חוזר ונופל על שורשו.

המשמעות העמוקה יותר בזה היא :עץ גדל ומתפשט ,והן הגזע )העץ

עצמו( והן הענפים הולכים ומתרחקים מהשורש ,בפרט כאשר מצד כמה

סבות נדמה שענף נגדע ,ח״ו ,ונעשה מקל יבש לעצמו ואפשר לחשוב שכבר

אין לו קשר עם השורש שלו ,אבל באמת יהודי אף פעם לא נפרד מהשורש

שלו ,והראי׳ שאפילו המקל היבש נופל גם הוא לשורש .צריך רק את האדם

המתאים שיזכיר באותיות המתאימות אודות השורש.

שימח אותי שמשפחתו אינה זקוקה לתזכורת מבחוץ ,כי אצלו בוערים

האור והחמימות החסידיים שירש מהוריו .תקותי שאור וחמימות אלו עוד

יתחזקו ויקבלו את הביטוי האמיתי שלהם בעניני תורה ומצוות.

יש פתגם מכ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר הכ״מ שהקב״ה אינו נשאר בעל חוב,

הנני מאחל לו שבזכות זה שישתתף בצדקות שונות ,ובפרט באלה הקשורות

עם המוסדות של כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר הכ״מ ,ישמח השי״ת לבותיכם בפרט

]לזרעא חייא וקיימא[ וימלא משאלות לבם לטובה בגשמיות וברוחניות.

המלצתי שזוגתו מרת . . .תחי׳ תתן צדקה בכל ערב שבת ויום טוב

לפני הדלקת הנרות ,בקופת ר׳ מאיר בעל הנס ,והוא עצמו בשעת הנחת

התפילין יזכיר לעצמו שהוא קשור עם כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר הכ״מ ,שזה יהי׳

הצינור שעל ידו תקויים הברכה נלזרעא חייא וקיימא[.
