To the former student of the Yeshiva, distinguished Chassid*,
who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs,
Rav Moshe Dulchin [1],

Greetings and blessings,

I was pleased to obtain news of you through our friend, the great Rav, distinguished Chassid who fears Hashem and is a man of zeal, of many accomplishments, Rav Yosef HaLevi Weinberg. I would like to know about your communal activity. You surely have a fixed time to study Torah in general, and the teaching of Chabad in particular. Moreover, you also teach it and share it with those around you.

You know the saying of the Rebbe Rashab*, according to which the students of the Yeshiva are "candles to give light." My father-in-law the Rebbe always reminded the Chassidim, and in particular the former students of the Yeshiva, who had settled in distant lands, that "Hashem prepares the steps of man." A Jew does not move solely to ensure his material livelihood, but because a mission, of a spiritual order, is entrusted to him in such-and-such a place and in such-and-such a country.

You know how Chassidut* interprets the verse "go for yourself" [2]. Each Jew, a descendant of our father Avraham, must indeed follow his way. He moved about constantly, and in every place where he arrived, "he called upon the Name of Hashem." Our Sages explain: "Do not read 'he called,' but 'he caused others to call,'" for he brought the existence of Hashem to the knowledge of all. To be sure, such a mission is difficult to carry out for one who is a nomad, but each receives all the forces necessary to accomplish the mission entrusted to his neshamah*.

As has been said, the beginning of the service of Hashem consists, above all, in giving light, in spreading "the lamp (which) is a mitzvah and the Torah (which) is light" throughout one's surroundings. Thank Hashem, you possess the necessary forces. You occupy an honorable place in your community. You can therefore accomplish great things. And my father-in-law the Rebbe gave the assurance that an effort is never in vain.

I hope to receive good news of yourself, of your communal activity, and of the time that you fix for the study of Torah. Thank you for informing me of all this.

שמחתי לקבל פ"ש ממנו על ידי ידידנו הרה"ג והרה"ח וו"ח אי"א נו"מ איש חי ורב פעלים וכו' מוהר"ר יוסף שי' הלוי וויינברג. ואתענין לדעת מעבודתו הציבורית ובטח יש לו גם קביעות עתים לתורה בכלל ולתורת חב"ד בפרט ללמוד וללמד ולזכות את סביבתו.

ידוע פתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר (הרש"ב) נ"ע כי התמימים הם נרות להאיר. וכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ הדגיש תמיד לכל אלה מאנ"ש שעלה בגורלם לנוד למרחקים, ובפרט מהתמימים שיחיו, כי מה' מצעדי גבר כוננו, היינו שלא לשם פרנסה גשמית יהודי יוצא לדרך אלא מפני תפקיד נפשי שעליו להוציא לפועל במקום פלוני ובמדינה פלונית.

וידוע פירוש דא"ח על הפ' לך לך, כי כל איש מישראל, בני אברהם אבינו ע"ה, צריך לאחוז בדרכו של אאע"ה שהי' נודד ממקום למקום ובכל מקום בואו - ויקרא בשם ה', אל תקרי ויקרא אלא ויקריא, שהי' מפרסם אלקותו ית'. והגם שעבודה זו קשה היא לעובר דרכים, אבל לכל אחד ניתנו הכוחות להוציא תפקידו ושליחות נפשו לפועל.

וראשית העבודה היא, כאמור, נר להאיר, היינו להכניס נר מצוה ותורה אור בכל הסביבה, ות"ל שחננו השי"ת בכוחות, בכוחות וכשרונות גלויים, וגם מכובד הוא בקהלתו, הנה בטח יכול לפעול הרבה, ואמר כ"ק מו?"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ, חזקה על תעמולה שאינה חוזרת ריקם.

והנני מקוה לשמוע בשורות טובות ממנו בעבודתו הציבורית ומהקביעות עתים לתורה שיש לו ות"ח על הודעתו מזה.

באיחולי כל טוב לו ולכל הנלוים אליו.
