Greetings and blessings,

I received your letter and the request for blessing that accompanied it. As you asked, I read it at the gravesite of my father-in-law the Rebbe, that you should have a child.

The Tzaddik* who departs from this world is found there more than during his lifetime, as the Zohar explains, volume 3, page 71. He will therefore invoke divine mercy so that the wish of your heart be fulfilled.

I would like to know what the doctors' opinion is on this matter. In my view, you and your wife should consult them and conform to their instructions.

It is known that when the Alter Rebbe, author of the Tanya and of the Shulchan Aruch, asked his master, the Maggid of Mezritch, to have a child, the latter cited him the verse "how can a young man make his way meritorious," of which he proposed a second reading: "how does one merit a young boy? By receiving guests." Basing myself on their teaching, I advise you to do the same.

May the study of Torah and the practice of mitzvot in general, hospitality (hachnasat orchim*) in particular, as well as the application of the treatment prescribed by a specialist in the matter, allow you to have a son. I would be happy to receive good news from you.

I would like to know the details of your communal activities. You surely strive to assume them to the fullest extent possible.

קבלתי מכתבו עם הפדיון נפש וכבקשתו קראתיו על ציון כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר הכ"מ בשאלתו להתברך בזרעא חייא וקיימא.

וצדיקא דאתפטר, דאשתכח בהאי עלמא יתיר מבחיוהי - כמבואר בזהר ח"ג דף ע"א - יעורר עליו רחמים למלא משאלות לבבו לטוב.

אתענין לדעת מה היא עצת הרופאים בזה, ולפי דעתי צריך הוא וגם זוג' תי' לשאול בעצת הרופאים ולעשות כהוראתם.

ועוד הצעתי עפ"י מאמר המגיד ממעזריטש ותלמידו אדמו"ר הזקן בעל התניא והשו"ע כשביקש אצלו על בן זכר וענה לו בלשון הכתוב במה יזכה נער (במה יזכה לבן זכר) את ארחו (על ידי מצות הכנסת אורחים), ויהי רצון אשר על ידי לימוד התורה וקיום המצוות בכלל והשתדלות במצות הכנסת אורחים בפרט, גם על ידי אחיזה בדרכי הטבע על ידי מילוי הוראת מומחה במקצוע זה, יזכה לזרעא חייא וקיימא בבן זכר.

ואשמח להתבשר בשורות טובות ממנו בזה.
