Igrot Kodesh · Letter 78 — Shavuos Preparations: Mishnah Study, Publications Network, and the Sefer Torah

To our friend, the great and well-known Rav, of generous conduct, Rav Menachem Tzvi Rivkin,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter from before the holiday of Pesach:

A) Your request for a blessing has been transmitted to my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, who will no doubt respond to you directly.

B) The Sefer Torah to greet Moshiach* [1] has been written up to Parshas Haazinu. Participations can still be received while it is being written, and one must therefore hurry.

C) The conclusion of the study by heart of the Mishnah [2] has been set for Sunday, 17 Sivan, and the distribution by lottery for the coming year will be made on the same day. Its conclusion will be the day after Shavuos 5704. With the help of our friends who are in your city, you are surely organizing such a distribution there, which will be even stronger than last year's.

One must know well that the possibility of reciting Mishnah by heart is not reserved for Yeshiva students or for those who devote themselves to study. It is addressed to all the House of Israel, so that those who have a professional occupation can also learn some chapters and repeat them when they walk in the street or find themselves in a store, in order to purify the atmosphere. You have no doubt received the second collection of letters of my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, and you will see his development on this subject therein.

D) We have sent you several publications edited by Kehos* [3] and you have no doubt received them. Likewise, we are sending you the guide of blessings and prayers [4], in accordance with your request.

I would be most grateful if you could confirm that you received them and tell me whether the equivalent should be sent to the Holy Land and, if so, in what quantity.

Here too, it would be good if you could constitute, through someone whom you trust, a committee for the dissemination and sale of these publications. This committee will be responsible for letting us know how many copies we must send of each publication and will ensure their dissemination and sale.

E) We have sent you the eighth issue of HaTamim*, as you requested, as well as the compilation HaYom Yom.

I will conclude by expressing the wish that you feel profoundly the time of the giving of our Torah. Indeed, nothing has changed and one can still be filled with awe, as was the case at that time. The holiday of Shavuos is linked to the counting of the Omer* which, according to several Poskim*, is only of Rabbinic obligation at the present time. Indeed, the transformation of matter will be revealed only in the future world, when it will have been brought to its conclusion. But it exists already at the present time, and this is why, according to some opinions, the counting of the Omer is indeed a Torah obligation.

May we merit to know the festival of the first fruits, when the Beis HaMikdash* will be rebuilt, very soon and in our days.

במענה על מכתבו מקודם חה"פ

א) בקשתו ברכה נמסרה לכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א, ובטח יקבל מענה ישר.

ב) בכתיבת הס"ת לקבלת פני משיח כבר הגיעו לפ' האזינו, ולכן כל הרוצה להשתתף - ובמשך זמן הכתיבה - עליו להזדרז בזה.

ג) סיום ש"ס משנה בע"פ נקבע ליום א' טו"ב סיון, ואז יעשו גם הגרלה לשנה הבע"ל - עד א"ח השבועות תד"ש, ובודאי, אשר כת"ר, בעזרת ידידינו שי' אשר במחנו הט' יסדרו גם אצלם חלוקת ולימוד משניות בע"פ, וביתר שאת משנה שעברה.

וזאת למודעי, אשר כוונת חזרת משניות בע"פ אינה רק בשביל בני הישיבות ויושבי אהל, כי אם בשביל כל בית ישראל, היינו שגם בעלי עסק ילמדו איזה פרקים בע"פ, ובלכתם בחוץ בעמדם בחנות וכה"ג יחזרו עליהם, כדי לטהר את האויר, ובודאי הגיעם זה מכבר קובץ מכתבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א השני, ויעו"ש שיחתו בזה.

ד) שלחנו ע"ש כת"ר במשך הזמן כמה מעניני דפוס שיו"ל פה על ידי "קהת", ובודאי הגיעו במועדם, כן נשלח לו עוד מ"סדר ברכות ותפלות" כהוראתו, ותודה רבה אם יודיענו מקבלתם, וכן אם שלחו - וכמה - חלופם לאה"ק.

וגם בזה מה טוב הי' אם הי' מארגן, ע"י מי מעושי רצונו, ועד להפצת ומכירת ענינים אלו, אשר הועד הי' מודיענו כמה עקז' לשלוח מכל סוג, והי' מתעסק בהפצתם ומכירתם.

ה) התמים חוב' ח' נשלח לו כבקשתו, וכן הקובץ היום יום.

ואסיים באיווי אשר ע"י ההרגש בפנימיות זמן מתן תורתנו - שבזה אין שינוי, ומה להלן באימה כו' אף כאן באימה כו' - וע"י ענין חג השבועות שתלוי בספה"ע שלרוב הפוסקים הוא רק מדרבנן בזמה"ז, כי פעולת עבודת הבירורים תתגלה רק לע"ל בגמר הבירורים (ולפי שישנה גם עתה לכן י"א שספה"ע הוא מה"ת, עיין סש"ב פמ"ו תו"א ס"פ בראשית ועוד) נזכה לחג הביכורים כשיבנה ביהמ"ק במהרה בימינו.
