Igrot Kodesh · Letter 77 — Shavuos — Wanting to Create Another Jew: The Deepest Expression of Torah

By the grace of Hashem,

Friday, 8 Sivan 5703,

To the wise and elevated Chassid, Rav I. HaKohen Katz [1],

I greet you and bless you,

You have undoubtedly consulted a few times the conversations with the youth that we sent you, in accordance with the subscription you had taken out when you were here. Furthermore, you surely made efforts to disseminate them in all the places where it was useful.

It is certainly unnecessary to explain to you how important it is to seek the good of others. We therefore have good hope that you will direct your action in this direction and even expand it gradually, by attracting other people who will come to your aid.

My father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita, reported to me the following words of the Alter Rebbe. The Torah is Divine and spiritual. How can the first Mitzvah* it states be that of procreation? It is because it is said: "Her ways are ways of pleasantness," and the same is true for the order in which it is stated.

Such is therefore the meaning of this first Mitzvah. A Jew must feel the desire to form another Jew. This is what my father-in-law told me.

בטח קיבל בזמנו את השיחות לנוער ששלחו לו ע״פ הזמנתו בהיותו

כאן ,וגם השתדל שיגיעו למקומות הצריכים,

עד כמה גדול ענין מזכה את הרבים ,בטח למותר להאריך בזה ,ולכן

מקוים אנו שגם בעתיד יפעל בענין ,ולאט לאט ירחיב את העבודה ,למשוך

עוד אנשים שיסייעו לו בזה,

שמעתי מכ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר שליט״א שרבנו הזקן אמר פעם :תורה

היא אלוקית ורוחניות ,והמצוה הראשונה האמורה להכתב בתורה היא

מצות פרי׳ ורבי׳? אלא מאי! התורה ,דרכי׳ ־ והסדר בה -דרכי נועם ,המצוה

הראשונה היא :יהודי צריך לרצות שיהי׳ עוד יהודי ,עכ״ל.

באיחולי חג שמח וקבלת התורה בפנימיות,

ובברכת לאלתר לתשובה לאלתר לגאולה
