(Before the festival of Shavuos*)

You write to me (note 1: This letter is addressed to Rav Yehoshua Schwartzman and was written on his own correspondence of 19 Iyar* 5721. See, regarding him, letter no. 7553) about the desert (note 2: About the man who makes himself like a desert). You will consult the Midrash* Shir HaShirim* Rabbah, commenting on verse 3:6 (note 3: "What is this that ascends from the desert, like pillars of cloud?"), which defines the value of one who comes from the desert, as well as the Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe*, at the beginning of the second Chassidic* discourse entitled: "And He spoke... in the wilderness of Sinai."
