To the distinguished and agreeable Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, of generous conduct, of illustrious lineage, the Rav S. Z. (note 2: Shneur Zalman Shazar. See, regarding him, letter no. 7475),

I greet you and bless you,

On the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah*, which approaches, for us and for all Israel, for the good and for the blessing, I address to you my blessing for a joyous festival and, in the words of the master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, that you receive the Torah* with joy and in a profound manner. With my respects and my blessing,

I enclose the copy of the letter I addressed to someone regarding the elections (note 3: This refers to the preceding letter), written in a pleasant manner. It is absolutely certain that to someone such as yourself, it is unnecessary to recall that there exists, in this matter, no difference between the parties (note 4: Mr. Shazar belonged to the Labor Party and Doctor Burg to the National Religious Party), including the most left-leaning. Indeed, their situation has already been defined by the Rambam*, at the end of the second chapter of his Laws of Divorce, in these terms: "One who, victim of his evil inclination, has neglected a Mitzvah* or committed a transgression, nonetheless desires to remain a Jew, to accomplish all the Mitzvos* and to distance himself from all transgressions. However, he is a victim of his evil inclination." How much more is this the case according to the following saying of the Alter Rebbe* (note 5: See, on this subject, letter no. 7053): "A Jew does not want to and cannot detach himself from Hashem." You have surely received, in their time, my previous letters.

מוסג"פ העתק מכתבי שכתבתי לאחד בנוגע לבחירות, על דרך הצחות. ובודאי ובודאי שלדכוותי' דמר אין מן הצורך להדגיש שבכל האמור אין כל חילוק בין מפלגה למפלגה אפילו אותם הדוגלים בשם השמאליות הקיצוניות ביותר, שהרי בעצם כבר פסק דינם הרמב"ם (הל' גירושין ספ"ב) שאפילו "מי שתקפו יצרו הרע לבטול מצוה או לעשות עבירה רוצה להיות מישראל ורוצה הוא לעשות כל המצוות ולהתרחק מן העבירות, ויצרו הוא שתקפו". ובפרט על פי פתגם כ"ק אדמו"ר הזקן "א איד ניט ער וויל ניט ער קען זיין אפגעריסן פון אלקות".
