To the distinguished and agreeable Chassid*, perceiving all that is positive, filled with eagerness, of many accomplishments, devoting himself to communal needs, the Rav Yitzchak, who is called Doctor Lewin (note 1: See, regarding him, letter no. 7491),

I greet you and bless you,

On the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah*, which approaches, for us and for all Israel, for the good, I address to you my blessing, in the words of the master, my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, to receive the Torah* joyously and in a profound manner. With my respects and my blessing on the occasion of the festival,

You inform me of the difficulties in writing the history of the recent period of the Shoah* and of the one that preceded it. You emphasize how prudent one must be in this domain. It is clear that this is indeed the case, but one has been able to observe, in the past, that by delaying the commencement of a project until one has the certainty of attaining the degree of perfection sought, one condemns it, most of the time, to never seeing the light of day (note 2: See the following letter). How much more is this true in this matter, for there is every reason to think that someone "will precede you" who will have neither pity nor generosity toward those who fear the Word of Hashem (note 3: And, whose book will therefore be foreign to Jewish faith). Furthermore, I know that you are interested in the education of Jewish girls. I therefore enclose a copy of my letter and notes on this subject. I hope you will find them of interest.

לכתבו - בבעית כתיבת דברי הימים של השואה האחרונה ודהתקופה שלפני שצ"ל בזהירות גדולה - אף שבודאי כן הוא, אבל ראינו בעבר בכגון דא, שבאם מעכבים התחלת פעולה עד שתובטח כל השלימות הדרושה בה, ברובא דרובא אינה באה לפועל כלל. ובפרט בנדו"ד שחשש קרוב לודאי "שיקדמנו אחר" (ולא ברחמים ובעין יפה בהנוגע להחרדים).
