Igrot Kodesh · Letter 76 — Mishnah Study for All Jews and the Chassidic Outreach Network Expansion

To the learned and wise Rav [1],

I greet you and bless you,

Basing myself on what I was told about you, I take the liberty of writing to you without any form of introduction. You undoubtedly have a precise knowledge of the activities of Machaneh Yisrael* and the Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch*, institutions that were founded some time ago by my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita*. Several aspects and different branches of these activities have been presented, among others, in HaKriah V'HaKedushah*, in the discourses of the Rebbe Shlita, and in the compilation HaYom Yom*.

But it was quite clear, in the mind of the founder, that the activity of Machaneh Yisrael and Merkaz L'Inyonei Chinuch was not to be limited solely to the United States and Canada. His desire was to find, in different places, persons possessing the same state of mind and assuming these functions from their own home, by their own means, and with the help of friends whom they would motivate to assist them.

We wrote to you on various occasions to engage in action in these domains and have, for the time being, received no response from you. But this activity is now timely and I would therefore like to reformulate the following points:

A) The conclusion of the study by heart of the entire Mishnah* [2] has been set for Sunday, 17 Sivan, on which date the distribution by lottery for the coming year will also be made, with the conclusion being the day after the holiday of Shavuos 5704 [3].

The purpose of the Mishnah study group has been clearly explained in the second collection of letters of my father-in-law, the Rebbe Shlita [4], which no doubt reached you some time ago. The geographic distance makes it impossible, from here, to invite each individual to enlist new members for this group. These will take part in the distribution, for example by joining our friends, the Chassidim* of Manchester, who already organized one last year, or by creating an independent group. In any case, the conclusion must take place the day after Shavuos 5704. Please let me know all the positive actions you have been able to carry out in this domain.

B) For some time, several publications have been edited here and it is a matter of disseminating them as widely as possible. It is said, indeed, that "your wellsprings shall spread outward," that is to say, into what is truly the outside. We therefore propose that you find the person who will be responsible for disseminating and selling them, for it is only what one pays for with one's money that has value. Thus, these books will reach the most distant people. So that this may be done without delay, we will send immediately, to your address, ten copies of each book, and you will kindly confirm having received them. We thank you in advance for giving us a prompt response.

You no doubt remember the letter you wrote me regarding the Tzimtzum* [5]. A man must therefore reflect on what would have happened if his Rebbe were with him, here and now — the Alter Rebbe*, the Baal Shem Tov*, the Ari Zal*, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai* at the time of the Idra*, Rabbi Akiva* when he was explaining the Heavenly Chariot, the Kohen Gadol* while he was in the Holy of Holies, or even Moshe, our master, at the moment of the giving of the Torah. It is clear that this man would have been totally submissive, to the point of no longer even feeling his own existence.

Now, Chassidus* arrives at the conclusion that the Tzimtzum bore upon the Light and not upon the Luminary, Hashem forbid. It follows that the Luminary is truly present, at the present hour, as He reveals Himself in the Holy of Holies, in this world of Asiyah*, or as at the moment of the giving of the Torah, in the world of Atzilus*, or in the worlds of the Infinite, for example the stage preceding the first Tzimtzum, when the Infinite Light of Hashem alone existed!

על יסוד מה ששמעתי ע"ד כת"ר ומהותו, הנני כותב בלי הקדמות. - בודאי ידוע לכת"ר בפרטיות ע"ד עבודת "מחנה ישראל" ו"מרכז לעניני חינוך" אשר נוסדו ע"י כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א זה מכבר, וכמה מפרטי עבודתם וסניפי' נתבארו ב"הקריאה והקדושה", בשיחות כ"ק אד"ש, בקובץ "היום יום" ועוד.

- מובן מאליו שאין כוונת המייסד שיסתפקו מחנ"י ומל"ח בעבודה בארצה"ב וקאנאדא, בלבד, כ"א שימצאו אנשים המתאימים לרוח הפרוגרם הנ"ל במקומות שונים, ואנשים אלו יקחו על שכמם העבודה במקום דירתם, בעצמם ובהתעוררות מכיריהם שיסייעו בידם.

- והנה איזה פעמים כתבנו לכת"ר ע"ד עבודה במקצועות הנ"ל, ולא נתכבדנו במענה. ובאשר עתה הזמן גרמא באתי בזה עוד הפעם, והוא:

א) סיום ש"ס משנה בע"פ נקבע ליום א' טו"ב סיון ואז יעשו גם הגרלה לשנה הבע"ל המסתיימת א"ח השבועות תד"ש. - מטרת חברת משניות בע"פ נתבאר היטב בקובץ מכתבי כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר שליט"א השני, אשר בטח הגיע לידו זה מכבר - ומפני ריחוק המקום שא"א לעורר את כאו"א מכאן הננו להציע לפניו, שיקח ע"ע ריכוש חברים לחברה זו, ויחלקו ביניהם ש"ס משניות בע"פ, אם בהשתתפות עם ידידנו אנ"ש אשר במאנצעסטער אשר עשו כנ"ל עוד בשנה העברה, או בחבורה בפ"ע, ובאופן שיקבעו הסיום ליום אחד הוא אחה"ש תד"ש, ות"ח אם יודיענו מפעולותיו הטובות בכל זה.

ב) במשך הזמן הו"ל פה כמה מעניני דפוס, וגם בזה הכוונה שיתפשטו בין השדרות היותר רחבים, - וידוע הדיוק בל' יפוצו מעינותיך חוצה, חוצה דוקא (עיין שיחת שמח"ת תר"ץ אות ל"ב). - והצעתנו לפני כת"ר לקחת על שכמו הטרחא, למצוא איש המתאים שיתעסק בהפצתם ומכירתם (שלא יהי' אסיא דמגן מגן שויא) למען אשר באופן כזה יגיעו לאנשים רחוקים ג"כ, וכדי שלא לעכב הדבר נשלח לע"ע - ע"ש כת"ר - עשרה מכל מין, ומטובו להודיע מקבלתם, ות"ח מראש אם יענה בהקדם על כל הנ"ל.

בודאי זוכר כת"ר ע"ד מכתבו אלי בענין הצמצום, והנה יתבונן האדם לו הי' נמצא בזה המקום ובזו הרגע אתו עמו ממש: האדמו"ר שלו אדמו"ר הזקן, הבעש"ט, האריז"ל, רשב"י בעת האידרא, ר"ע בעת דרשו במעשה מרכבה, כה"ג כמו שהוא בקה"ק וכו' וכו' עד מרע"ה ברגע מ"ת - הלא לא הי' לו שום תפיסת מקום ומציאות כלל, והנה באה תורת הדא"ח ופסקה למסקנה, שאין הצמצום אלא באור ולא ח"ו במאור, והמאור נמצא עתה פה ממש כמו שהוא נמצא בקה"ק דעולם העשי', ברגע מ"ת על הר סיני, בעולם האצי', בעולמות הא"ס כמו שהוא לפני הצמצום הראשון כשהי' אור הא"ס ממלא את כל המציאות!
