Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7595 — Tzedakah

Volume 20 · Letter 150

By the grace of Hashem,

10 Adar* 5721,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I have not received a letter from you, have not had news of you for quite a long time already. May Hashem grant that this be a sign that all is well, in your communal accomplishments as in your personal concerns. You have no doubt transmitted my collective greetings, as well as what I discussed with you, concerning your city and, more generally, your regions. I am surprised and even pained that practically nothing has been done to disseminate the wellsprings (note 1: Of Chassidus*). It is clear that this mission falls, above all, upon you yourself and those who are like you. Indeed, you pursued your studies for some time at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, which was founded and is directed by our masters and leaders, whose merit protects us. Now, the actions and words of the righteous are immutable. Furthermore, your ancestry comes to your aid. For someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to say more.

Naturally, my purpose is not to moralize, but rather to invite and encourage you to this dissemination and to the actions taken in this direction, with all the necessary energy. I am particularly surprised by this deficiency in the present era, when the entire world and the most diverse circles speak of and disseminate at least some notions of these wellsprings (note 1: Of Chassidus*), on the occasion of the bicentennial of the Hilula* of the Baal Shem Tov*. In various places, people continue to do so even now (note 2: Although the bicentennial has passed, having been celebrated in 5720). And this will be the case here as well, for example, in the coming weeks, when this action will be undertaken by non-observant groups. How much more must those who possess the depth of all this do the same.

May Hashem grant that I receive good tidings of all this. As the Megillah* of Purim* says, since its reading (note 3: The Rebbe* notes at the bottom of the page: "One can add that such is the profound dimension of the service of Hashem by man, who must realize the terms of the following teaching: 'My Name is read as it is written.' For what is read is revealed. Moreover, what is involved here are Names and not merely Ado-nai, through which 'You are the Master of all Your creatures,' for one must also know that Hashem is the Creator, that He was, is, and will be simultaneously, with all the distinctions that can be made between the Names Havayah*, Ado-nai, and Elokim*. I enclose an extract from a letter that specifies this idea, which will surely interest you." Regarding this letter extract, see also the following letter and letter no. 7585) will begin tomorrow (note 4: The 11th of Adar* is the first date of reading of the Megillah* cited by the Mishnah*): "For the Jews, there was light" — "the light is the Torah*." Now, light illuminates a place that previously lacked clarity. Moreover, the Alter Rebbe* teaches that the term Orah, light, has the grammatical form of an action that one causes others to perform (note 5: The light must therefore enable one to illuminate one's surroundings). You will consult, on this subject, the conclusion of the Shaarei Orah*. With my respects, my blessing for a joyous Purim*, and to give good tidings,
