By the grace of Hashem,
17 Elul 5710,

Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of 18 Menachem Av in which you ask me whether you must leave the city where you currently reside and, if so, where to go.

In my opinion, you should endeavor to obtain a visa for the United States, Canada, or Australia and, approximately, what delay it will take for this. If this is not possible, you will let me know.

You tell me that your son is not very drawn to study. You must therefore explain to him, in words he will understand, that everything is now different — that he must know that my father-in-law, the Rebbe, is the leader and the head of his Chassidim* and of those bound to him. Now, it is quite obvious that the head is healthy and strong [1]. It therefore carries fully within itself all the potentials and the vitality necessary for those bound to it. Everything therefore depends on them. If their will is not that of the head, Hashem forbid, they are not the only ones in question [2].

A reflection, even hasty, on all this, will surely permit him to become conscious of the immense responsibility that falls upon him. To the full measure that his state of health permits, he must therefore devote himself fully to the will of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, to the application of his words and his teachings figuring in his talks, his letters, addressed to all or personal. Each one, men and women, will find there how to orient his existence.

And one must not ask what relationship there can be between such a small boy and such a great Rebbe. Various texts of Chassidus* explain it, in particular the Chassidic discourse of 18 Elul, which appeared this year and is found in the booklet that you will find enclosed.

You and your son-in-law no doubt have a fixed time for the study of the teaching of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and you read Psalm 71 [3].

As you asked of me, I will mention your names and those of the members of your family, at the gravesite of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, so that you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.

התמים הוו״ח אי״א וכו׳ מו״ה . . .שי׳

שלום וברכה!

הצטערתי לשמוע שאינו בקו הבריאות כ״כ ,ויש אומרים שמזמן לזמן

נופל ברוחו .והי׳ לי פלא גדול על זה ,כי ידוע ומתבאר בכמה מקומות בתורת

החסידות ,אשר חסיד צריך לחוש את האמת ־״ )שבאמת כן הוא בכל

הנבראים ! ה״ונפלינו״ של חסידים ובפרט תמימים ,הוא זה שהם צריכים

גם לחוש זאת ולא רק להבין בשכל(- .

ואלו הם שני ההפכים שיש בכל נברא ,שמצד אחד -מצד עצמו --הוא

ממש לא ]מציאות[ ,אבל מצד השני -מצד זה שהוא ברי׳ של מהות ועצמות

א״ס ב״ה ,שזו כל המהות שלו -גם הנברא הוא כל יכול.

אם לסתם יהודים וחסידים קשה לחוש זאת ,אבל ,זה צריך להיות

בפשטות הגמורה אצל תמימים מקושרים לנשיאם הוא כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר

הכ״מ .כי הרי כל אחד מהם צריך לדעת ולחוש ,שצדיקא דאתפטר אשתכח

בכולהו עלמין -וכפי שרבנו הזקן מוסיף :גם בעולם הזה המעשה -יתיר

מבחיוהי ,שהרי סרו ההגבלות של מקום .במילא צריך כל אחד לחוש שהרבי

נמצא יחד אתו.

במה שנוגע להתבוננות במעמד ומצב שלו ,לכך ישנם זמנים מיוחדים

שצריך לעשות זאת ,אבל בשאר הזמן עדיף לחשוב על הרבי ,כיצד הוא

תמיד עם מקושריו וכיצד הוא מנהיג אותם על כל צעד ושעל.

והרעיון כשלעצמו ,אפילו ללא התבוננות מיוחדת ,צריך לפעול חיזוק

בכל כוחות הנפש על מנת לנצל אותם מתאים לפי רצון כ״ק מו״ח אדמו״ר

הכ״מ.

היוצא מזה ,שצריך להיות חזק בבטחונו בברכות צדיק הוא כ״ק מו״ח

אדמו״ר הכ״מ אשר הוא עומד עליו ומנהלו בדרך הישרה ,ובלבד שלא יהי׳

נופל ברוחו ,ויאמר בכל יום פרק ע״א מתהלים ,והעיקר ,שיהי׳ מונח

במוחלט ,שהרבי אתו ,והוא יכול לסמוך עליו שהכל יהי׳ טוב ,כי עצמות

ומהות א״ס ב״ה הרי הוא תכלית הטוב ,והרבי הוא הממוצע המחבר עם

עצמות ומהות א״ס ב״ה וממלא את הרצון שהכל יהי׳ טוב ,וסוף סוף שיהי׳

בטוב הנראה והנגלה . . .
