To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and assumes a sacred mission, the Rav Yisrael Meir (note 1: Rav I. M. Altein, of Pittsburgh. See, regarding him, letter no. 6454),

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of the conclusion of the holy Shabbos* Parshas* Lech Lecha*, with what was enclosed. At a propitious moment, I will mention all those you cite near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us.

May you be blessed with a good and fruitful year. You and your wife will educate all your children to Torah*, to the wedding canopy and to good deeds, with an addition to everything that concerns the Torah* and the Mitzvos*, each according to his situation, in particular in the Mitzvah* that is more specifically yours — Achei Temimim* (note 2: The Yeshivah of this city, of which Rav Altein is the director) of Pittsburgh. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this.

You ask me about the existence of the light within the luminary. You will consult, on this subject, the Shaar HaYichud VeHaEmunah*, chapter 3. Furthermore, you wonder how to be a servant of the Supreme King. Indeed, how does one completely disregard one's ego? Yet this is what the opinions state, even more clearly, that consider the contraction of Light that is at the origin of creation must be interpreted in the literal sense. It is explained, on this subject, that Hashem is All-Powerful and that nothing is impossible for Him.
