Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7461 — Chinuch
Volume 20 · Letter 16 · To: grand Rav
By the grace of Hashem,
5 Marcheshvan* 5721,
Brooklyn,
To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of multiple knowledge, the Rav Reuven (note 1: Rav R. Margolis, of Tel Aviv. See, regarding him, letter no. 2949),
I greet you and bless you,
I received with pleasure your greetings, through the intermediary of the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of multiple accomplishments and good conduct, Rav Moshe Yeruslavski, as well as your book, which is a study of the names and surnames in the Talmud*, with the offprint (note 2: Extract from the same book) on the students of Rabbi Yehudah the Prince. May your strength multiply in the Torah* and may you strengthen all of this, according to the means that Hashem has granted you in order to bring to light what is hidden. Furthermore, you will also consult the Tanya* of the Alter Rebbe*, Kuntres Acharon*, page 159b.
I cannot refrain from expressing my surprise, after having presented my apologies for what follows. Indeed, many of your books seem to establish that you have always belonged to the community of the Chassidim* and, in fact, how could it be otherwise? I therefore had good hope that you would devote your time and your knowledge to the teaching of Chassidus*, its Great Ones, its concepts and its customs, especially during the year that has just passed, that of the bicentennial of the Hilloula* of our master, the Baal Shem Tov* (note 3: See the many letters of the year 5720 on this subject). Now, I have searched, I have inquired, but, for the time being, I have found nothing of all this. It seems, however, that you are a rapid writer (note 4: Such a work should therefore have already appeared). Of course, I do not wish to moralize, which would be unthinkable and is by no means my purpose. I rather refer to the future. What concerns the Torah* is timely at every moment, and I therefore hope that you will multiply all of this very soon, not only for your own pleasure, but also, in accordance with your custom, so that there be a wide dissemination in this matter, especially according to the words of the Arizal*, cited by various texts, in particular Iggeres HaKodesh* of the Alter Rebbe*, chapter 26, according to which it is an obligation and a Mitzvah*, in our era, to "reveal this wisdom." For someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to say more. With my respects and my blessing,
ב״ה ,ג׳ סיון ,תשכ״א
