To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes himself to communal needs, renders judgment, leads his community in uprightness, the Rav Shlomo (note 1: Rav Sh. Assayag, Rav of Debdou, Morocco. See, regarding him, letter no. 5456),

I greet you and bless you,

I received with pleasure your letter of 27 Elul*, in which you refer to the public study of Torah*, of the words of the Aggadah* and of Mussar* (note 2: Classes that Rav Assayag gives to his community). The words of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the hidden part of the Torah*, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah*, are known, in his holy epistle, reported in chapter 23 of the fourth part of the Tanya*, according to which the majority of the secrets of the Torah* are found in the Aggadah* stated in the Ein Yaakov*. Furthermore, these atone for the sins of man, as the writings of the Arizal* establish.

May Hashem grant that you develop all of this broadly, with joy and enthusiasm, in accordance with the teaching of the great master, the Rambam*, in his Yad HaChazakah*, at the conclusion of the Laws of the Lulav*. At a propitious moment, your name will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write to me. The merit of this action will come to your aid so that you may announce good tidings of all this. With my blessing to give these good tidings,

Due to the holiness of the festival (note 3: This letter is dated Chol HaMoed Sukkos), the Rebbe* did not sign the present letter and I (note 4: The Rebbe's secretary) therefore do so in his place. As you requested, a copy of the holy Tanya* and other books have been sent to you by separate mailing.

נעם לי לקבל מכתב כת"ר מז"ך אלול, בו כותב אודות לימוד תורה ברבים, דברי אגדה ומוסר.

והרי ידועים דברי רבנו הזקן בעל התניא - פוסק בנסתר דתורה, והשולחן ערוך - פסוק בנגלה דתורה, באגה"ק שלו (תניא ח"[ד] סי' כ"ג) אשר האגדה שבס' ע"י רוב סודות התורה גנוזין בה ומכפרת עונותיו של אדם כמבואר בכהאריז"ל - דברים נפלאים ונצורים.

ויהי רצון שיוסיף בהאמור כהנה וכהנה ומתוך שמחה וטוב לבב, וכהוראת המורה הגדול רבנו הרמב"ם בספרו יד החזקה בסיום וחותם הלכות לולב.

בעת רצון יזכירוהו על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מתאים לתוכן כתבו, וזכות פעולתו האמורה, תעמוד לו לבשר טוב בכל האמור.
