Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7423 — Faith & Bitachon

By the grace of Hashem,

9 Elul* 5720,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

In this month of Elul*, the month of mercy, whose combination appears in the verse Devarim* 6:25: "And it will be a Tzedakah* for us," according to the interpretation of the Mishnas Chassidim*, at the beginning of the tractate on Elul*, may Hashem grant that the service of Hashem conform to the commentary that the holy Or HaChaim* gives on this verse — that it be based on the love of Hashem. Now, the perfection of the service of Hashem sets aside all personal interest, as the Kuntres HaAvodah* (note 1: Of the Rebbe Rashab*) explains in chapter 5, according to which the love that does not depend on a cause, that emanates from the essence of the soul, the Yechidah*, intervenes even in concrete action, and this verse concludes with: "to do."

And "as the face reflects in water," the love and kindness of Hashem will also be revealed, without limit and without restriction, down to the lowest point, both materially and spiritually (note 2: See letter no. 7415).

וכמים הפנים לפנים וגו' ג"כ מלמעלה יומשך, בקו האהבה וחסד שאז ההמשכה בלי גבולים וצמצומים ועד למטה מטה בגשמיות וברוחניות גם יחד.
