By the grace of Hashem,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of the eve of Shabbos*, with what was enclosed. You write to me that a match has been proposed to you and you raise the question of those who will accompany the bride and groom under the wedding canopy. One must conform, in this matter, to what both parties decide. It would be good for neither the groom nor the bride to involve themselves in this. Furthermore, you allude to the wedding canopy erected under the open sky. This custom is mentioned by various texts and has various reasons. I therefore have good hope that all will agree that it be so. Even if the wedding takes place in a fully covered hall, the wedding canopy can be placed near the hall, outside. This has already been done, right here, for many weddings. May Hashem grant that you be blessed like the stars of the heavens, which, obviously, is also one of the reasons for this practice.

On this occasion, I also have the obligation and the merit of emphasizing to you the necessity of establishing a fixed time for the study of the inner dimension of the Torah*, which, in our era, has been revealed through Chassidus*. If at all times and in all places this has been indispensable, how much more is this the case in our generation and in these lands. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

במענה למכתבו מעש"ק עם המצורף אליו בו כותב אודות הצעת נכבדות, ולהבעיא מי יהיו השושבינין המוליכים את החתן או את הכלה אל החופה.

יש לעשות כמו ששני הצדדים יתדברו בזה, ומה טוב שלא החתן ולא הכלה יתערבו בענין.

ולכתבו אודות חופה תחת כפת השמים, - הרי כיון שהובא זה בכ"מ וכמה טעמים בדבר, תקותי חזקה שכולם יסכימו לעשות באופן האמור, ז.א. תחת כפת השמים, ואפילו כשנעשית החתונה באולם שכולו מקורה יכולה החופה להיות בחוץ בסמיכות להאולם, וכמו שהי' כבר בכמה וכמה חתונות כאן.

ויהי רצון שיתברכו בככוכבי השמים (שגם זה אחד הטעמים להאמור, וק"ל).

וכאן עלי החובה (והזכות) לעוררו על ההכרח בקביעות שיעור לימוד בפנימיות התורה, אשר בדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות, ואם בכל הזמנים ובכל המקומות הי' הכרח בזה, עאכו"כ בתקופתנו ובמדינות אלו ביחוד.
