By the grace of Hashem,
17 Elul 5710,

To the Rav, Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav N. N. [1],

Greetings and blessings,

You have surely received, in their time, my previous letters and the booklets.

I was pained to learn that our friends, the Rabbanim and Chassidim* who fear Hashem, ... have been incarcerated. Since then, I have had no news of them.

Steps are no doubt being taken in this domain, to the full measure possible. Will you kindly tell me what is happening and what is the present situation. I have good hope that, in these days of mercy [2], they may be liberated, in conformity with the halachic decision according to which the one who must undergo a judgment will endeavor that it intervene during the month of mercy. Thus, the punishment will disappear.

I await good news from you, in general and in this domain in particular.

I conclude wishing you to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

When they are liberated, you will transmit to them my blessing that they be inscribed and sealed for a good and sweet year, that this punishment be sufficient for the entire year to come, in the course of which they will not know suffering, Hashem forbid.

And one concludes by evoking visible and tangible good.

בטח משתדלים בזה כפי האפשריות, ומטובו להודיעני מהנעשה בזה ומהמצב עתה, ותקותי חזקה אשר בימי הרחמים האלה ועפ"י פסק הדין דמאן דאית לי' דינא וכו' זאל זיין אין חודש הרחמים, ישחררו את הנ"ל ולא יהי' מזה עג"נ.
