To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Eliezer Lippa (note 1: Rav E. L. Lavi. See, regarding him, letter no. 7043),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter, in which you tell me about a compendium on the Talmud* that would be compiled from the books of Chassidus*, in the manner of the Shitah Mekubetzes* (note 2: A compendium of Talmudic commentaries based on the revealed part of the Torah*). It is clear that this is, overall, a good initiative. However, I do not have the means, at present, to place it on the agenda of the activities to be undertaken by Kehot* Publications in the near future. These are, indeed, called upon to work on manuscripts and to prepare their publication, this work having already been begun or, at the very least, commitments having been made regarding them.

In this regard, the fundamental works of Chabad* Chassidus* — the Tanya*, the Torah* Or, and the Likkutei Torah* — possess indexes that have already been published. In fact, this constitutes an important part of the preparation of such a compendium, regarding Chabad* Chassidus*. Our Sages* teach that: "Everything depends on Mazal*, including the Sefer Torah* that is in the Ark." It is therefore certain that ultimately, such an achievement will see the light of day. To someone like you, it is surely unnecessary to recall what the 12th and 13th of Tammuz* are — the festival of liberation of my father-in-law, the Rebbe. I hope that you will physically participate in the Chassidic* gathering organized on these days. With my blessing to give good tidings, in good health, and on the occasion of the festival of liberation,

מאשר הנני קבלת מכתבו, בו כותב אודות לקוט על הש"ס מספרי החסידות כעין שיטה מקובצת.

והנה מובן אשר בכלל נכון הדבר, אבל ביחד עם זה לע"ע אין ביכולתי להעמיד זה על סדר היום דפעולות קה"ת עכ"פ בעתיד הקרוב מפני כמה ענינים דעבוד כת"י והכנה להו"ל שכבר נכנסו בהם או עכ"פ התחילו בהם או עכ"פ כבר התחייבו בהתחלה.

ולהעיר בהאמור, אשר בהנוגע לספרי היסוד של תורת חסידות חב"ד, תניא תורה אור לקוטי תורה, הרי הנ"ל יש להם מפתח ענינים (שכבר יצאו לאור) שבעצם ה"ז כבר חלק חשוב בהכנה לדפוס לקוט האמור בהנוגע לחסידות חב"ד, וע"פ מרז"ל הכל תלוי במזל ואפילו ס"ת שבהיכל בודאי שסו"ס גם הנ"ל יבוא בפועל.

בודאי לדכוותי' למותר להעיר ענין י"ב וי"ג תמוז חג גאולת כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר, ותקותי שגם בגופו ישתתף בהתועדות ימים אלו.
