Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7299 — Faith & Bitachon

Volume 19 · Letter 270

By the grace of Hashem,

15 Iyar* 5720,

Brooklyn,

I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter of 10 Iyar*, in which you discuss your stuttering. You have been treated by several doctors, but for the time being, nothing has changed. Now, the specialists in this matter have devised an effective treatment, at least to a large extent. You will therefore seek out one of these specialists and consult him. Nevertheless, as our Sages* emphasize, the channel for receiving the blessings of Hashem is the practice of the Torah* and Mitzvos*. It is therefore quite evident that it is incumbent upon you to redouble your drive and ardor in the study of the Torah*, in the practice of Mitzvos* in the best manner. It is in this way that one multiplies the blessings of Hashem in all one's needs.

It should also be noted that very often, stuttering results from a lack of self-confidence (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 7173), from a fear of people. Therefore, if you engrave in your mind (note 2: In order to combat this lack of self-confidence), permanently, the fact that "I have placed Hashem before me always," if you tell yourself that Hashem is the Essence of good, that He wishes to bestow His kindness upon His creatures, that He grants His Providence* to each one, as explained in particular by Chassidus*, you will see that these undesirable manifestations — this lack of confidence, this fear of people — will diminish and weaken, as it is written: "Hashem is with me, I shall not fear." At a propitious moment, all those you cite will be mentioned near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. May Hashem grant that you give me good tidings of all this. With my blessing,

For the Rebbe Shlita*,

The secretary,

N.B.: It would be good to have your Tefillin* checked, to ensure that they are kosher in accordance with Halachah*. Likewise, each weekday, before the morning prayer, you will set aside a few coins for Tzedakah*.
