By the grace of Hashem,

Bicentennial of the Hilloula* of our master the Baal Shem Tov*,

To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself to communal needs, the Rav Chananya Yosef (note 1: Rav Ch. Y. Halpern. See, regarding him, letter no. 3276), Gabay* of the synagogue Beis Yosef Chabad*, in the holy city of Yerushalayim*, may it be restored and rebuilt by our righteous Moshiach*, very soon and in our days,

I greet you and bless you,

I received, with pleasure, your letter of 29 Nissan*, the month of redemption, on the eve of Rosh Chodesh* of radiance (note 2: Iyar*, the month of radiance), in which you announce to me the good news of the completion of the study of the Talmud*, publicly taught in your synagogue, which will take place next week. May Hashem grant that this completion be filled with joy and enthusiasm, with light and radiance. The same will be true when you begin this study again, according to the formulation of the prayer: "To learn and to teach, to guard and to do, to accomplish..."

And may there be fulfilled in each one the conclusion of this prayer: "That the Torah* not depart from my mouth, from that of my descendants, and from that of the descendants of my descendants, for eternity." In your days and in ours, may the promise inscribed at the conclusion of this prayer, as well as at that of the Talmud*, be fulfilled: "Hashem will confer might upon His people. Hashem will bless His people with peace" (note 3: The Rebbe notes: "See the commentary of Rashi* on the verse Tehillim* 29:11 and Tanya*, chapter 36"), with the coming of our righteous Moshiach*. At that time, there will be no (note 4: The Rebbe notes: "Rambam*, at the conclusion of Yad HaChazakah*") jealousy or rivalry. All Jews will be great sages, knowing the hidden elements. Our masters have already explained (note 5: The Rebbe notes: "Tanya*, at the beginning of chapter 37") that one can attain such an objective through our actions and accomplishments during the time of exile. Despite the intense and deep darkness of the night of this exile, one will recite the Shema Yisrael* (note 6: The Rebbe notes: "Which means: 'Accept, know, and believe.' Upon this acknowledgment and this faith depend, in particular, all the Mitzvos* of the Torah*, according to the summarized formulation of the Chinuch*, at Mitzvah* no. 417") of the evening, until the break of day, at the morning of the true and complete redemption (note 7: The Rebbe notes: "According to the beginning of the Talmud Yerushalmi*: 'Rabbi Chanina Rabbah said to Rabbi Shimon ben Chalafta...' and its conclusion: 'When I find myself in darkness, Hashem is my Light'"), very soon and in our days. With my respects and my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

נעם לי לקבל מכתבו מכ"ט ניסן, חדש הגאולה, ערב ראש חדש זיו, בו מבשר טוב, מסיום הש"ס, הנלמד ברבים בבית הכנסת, בשבוע הבע"ל.

ויהי רצון שיהי' הסיום מתוך שמחה והתלהבות אור וזיו, וכן ההתחלה מחדש, וכנוסח התפלה ללמוד וללמד לשמור ולעשות ולקיים וכו'. ויקוים בכל אחד ואחד הסיום דתפלה זו, שלא תמוש התורה מפי ומפי זרעי וזרע זרעי עד עולם, ובימיהם ובימינו נזכה לקיום היעוד, ככתוב בחותם תפלה האמורה, ובסיום הש"ס, ה' עוז לעמו יתן ה' יברך את עמו בשלום, בביאת משיח צדקנו, שבאותו הזמן לא יהי' קנאה ותחרות וכו', ויהיו ישראל חכמים גדולים, ויודעים דברים הסתומים וכו'.

וכבר ביארו רבותינו נשיאינו, אשר השגת תכלית זו, תלוי' במעשינו ועבודתינו כל זמן משך הגלות וכו'.

אשר למרות החשך כפול ומכופל דליל הגלות, יהיו קורין את שמע בערבית זו עד שיעלה עמוד השחר, שחר גאולה האמתית והשלימה, בב"א.

בכבוד ובברכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור.
