By the grace of Hashem,

To the Rav, Chassid* who fears Hashem, the Rav Shlomo [1],

Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letters of 4 and 5 Elul, announcing to me that your wedding will be celebrated on 18 Elul.

May your wedding be celebrated in a good and fruitful moment, may your couple be happy, may you build an eternal edifice, based on Torah and Mitzvos* as Chassidus* explains, and blessed with upright children.

With my blessing of Mazal Tov, Mazal Tov, for you and for your future wife, Pessya.

With my blessing for you to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

You ask me about the wedding ring. The custom in the family of the Rebbe is that it be of gold. This is the practice of the Chassidim* that I have been able to observe [2].

Moreover, the Taamei HaMinhagim and the Chuppat Chasanim say that one places the ring on the finger because of Psalm 19 [3], which says: "And He, like a bridegroom... than gold." Gold here alludes to the finger.

בשאלתו בענין הטבעת של קדושין, הנה מנהג בית הרב הוא בטבעת של זהב, וכן ראיתי נוהגים גם אנ"ש והחסידים.

ולהעיר ממש"כ בס' טעמי המנהגים מס' חופת חתנים שנותנים הטבעת על האצבע מפני שבמזמור י"ט: והוא כחתן גו' מזהב גו', תיבת מזהב מכוונת לאצבע, עיי"ש.
