By the grace of Hashem,

Days of Chanukah* 5720,

Bicentennial of the Hilloula* of the

Baal Shem Tov*, of saintly memory,

Brooklyn, New York (note 1: This letter was sent to many people),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter from the conclusion of Shabbos*. A specific motivation can be drawn from the days of Chanukah*, during which one kindles lights — those that are always "facing the Menorah*." All its blessings will never disappear, as the Ramban* explains, at the beginning of Parshas* Behaalosecha*. Indeed, the Halachah* retains the opinion of Beis Hillel* (note 2: According to which one kindles the lights in increasing order), according to which one goes forward and illuminates.

May Hashem therefore grant that it be likewise in your sacred activities, throughout the entire year, in order to multiply "the candle that is a Mitzvah* and the Torah* that is a light," "the candle of Hashem that is the soul of man" — one's own and that of one's fellow — in joy. And may these activities be permeated with light and vitality of the spirit, with the illumination of the inner dimension of His Torah*, revealing the inner and essential dimension of the Light of the Ein Sof*. In this regard, you will consult the holy epistle of the Rebbe Rashab*, which is printed in the HaYom Yom*, on the date of 19 Kislev*. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this and for a joyous Chanukah*,

הנה כן יהי' בהפעולות בקדש במשך כל השנה להוסיף בנר מצוה ותורה אור, ובנר ה' נשמת אדם של עצמו ושל הזולת, מתוך שמחה, ותהיינה הפעולות חדורות אור וחיות הנפש, מוארה באור פנימיות תורתו ית', הנמשכת מבחי' פנימיות ועצמות אוא"ס ב"ה (עיין אגרת הקדש של כ"ק אדמו"ר (מוהרש"ב) נ"ע, נדפסה בהיום יום י"ט כסלו).
