I greet you and bless you,

I will respond regarding the last point in your letter, which refers to your son. You tell me that he has taken and still takes, every day, antibiotic tablets. You surely know that in the United States, the enthusiasm for such treatments has practically disappeared, that one now avoids using them in an "exaggerated" manner. Furthermore, a point that is even more important — side effects have begun to be discovered. Of course, this is merely a general remark, intended to emphasize to you that it would be good to consult your treating physician, so that he takes these elements into account with all necessary attention and decides whether it is wise to continue taking these tablets. It would be good to suggest to him that he consult those who have conducted research in this matter, for in general, treating physicians have little time to devote to research. Furthermore, it is obvious that the factories manufacturing these tablets are not pleased by such research.

I am particularly surprised that you are in doubt regarding the continuation of your son's studies and the framework in which they should be conducted in the near future. Indeed, experience has proven that in this matter, the determining element is the fear of Hashem instilled in this education. For, as good as it may be, the street and other situations have the effect of reducing this fear of Hashem. Now, due to our many transgressions, no one has come forward to complain about the "exaggerated" fear of Hashem of the schools you mention. With my respects, my blessing to give good tidings of all this and to multiply them, from time to time, as these days of Chanukah* teach, since the Halachah* retains the opinion of Beis Hillel* according to which the lights are kindled in increasing order,

- בודאי ידוע לו שבארצוה"ב כבר פגה הלהיטות אחרי גלולות אלו, ומתחילים להסתייג משימוש "מופרז" מהם, ומה שנוגע עוד יותר - התחילו להבחין בתוצאות צדדיות בלתי רצויות, מובן שהערה זו היא רק בדרך כלל, ולא באה אלא לעורר, שכדאי לדבר עם הרופא המטפל על שימת לב ועיון הראוי, - הרצוי המשך השימוש בגלולות האמורות וכו'. ומה טוב לעוררו שיחקור בזה אצל אלו שעסקו במיוחד בחקר בשטח זה, אחרי שע"פ רוב - רופאים המטפלים אין זמנם פנוי כ"כ לחקירות, ובפרט אשר בתי חרושת המיצרים הגלולות, כמובן, אין דעתם נוחה מחקירות הנ"ל.

פליאה גדולה ביותר על הספק אצלו בהנוגע להמשך ולהמסגרת של חינוך בנו בעתיד הקרוב, שהרי הראה הנסיון אשר בכגון דא נוגעת בעיקר מדת היראת שמים אשר בחנוך, כי ככל שלא יהי' טוב בזה הרי הרחוב ועוד כמה גורמים פועלים למעט בהיראת שמים, ובעוה"ר ב' בתי הספר אודותם מזכיר - לא נשמע שיהי' מי שהוא שיתאונן עליהם שיראתם במדה "מופרזת".
