By the grace of Hashem,
21 Kislev* 5720,
Brooklyn,
I greet you and bless you,
I duly received your request for a blessing and, at a propitious moment, I will mention the name of this man and that of his wife near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, in accordance with what he writes to me. I am surprised that he does not specify whether they have tried to treat him with the appropriate injections, as well as with exercise or movements of the fingers and feet. Indeed, even if what he writes does not specify what affliction it is, it seems that the blood circulation is impaired. In any case, it would be good to mention this to the treating physician. Indeed, when one intervenes through natural means, one forges the channel and the receptacle for the supernatural blessing. Now, in a Jew, the material and spiritual dimensions go hand in hand, and our Sages*, interpreting the expression (note 1: Devarim* 11:6): "And all the possessions that were at their feet," say: "This alludes to Tzedakah*." It would therefore be wise to increase your contribution to Tzedakah*, in the most literal sense, particularly to the institutions that devote themselves to the education, based on sacred values, of Jewish children, who are the "feet" of the great organism that constitutes the people of Israel. Now, an addition to the spiritual vitality of man obviously strengthens his physical vitality.
Everything is an effect of Divine Providence and your request (note 2: For the complete recovery of these people) reaches me during the month of Kislev*, on the morrow of the festival of the liberation of the Alter Rebbe*, author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the inner dimension of the Torah*, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah* — the date marking the victory of Chassidus*. It is therefore my duty, but also my merit, to emphasize to you the necessity of fixing a time for the study of Chassidus*, for at least a moment every day, and in an increased manner during Shabbos*. You will also adopt the practice of reciting Tehillim*, according to their monthly division, each morning after prayer. Awaiting your good tidings concerning all this,
