To the young man, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem

and assumes a sacred mission, Rav Meir (note 1: Rav M. Friedman, of Kfar Chabad*),

I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letter of 11 Kislev* and I enclose my letter addressed to the seventh grade (note 2: Equivalent to the beginning of secondary education). If an additional explanation proves necessary, you will surely know how to find the appropriate words. I took note, with pleasure, of your sacred actions within this holy institution (note 3: A school). I will mention your name once more near the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, so that the success be in accordance with the will of our masters and that you be (note 4: The students of this school) "luminaries to give light."

Certainly, from the outset and initially, this expression was pronounced exclusively regarding the students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*. Nevertheless, it is said that: "Whoever teaches Torah* to the son of his fellow is considered by the Torah* as if he had begotten him" and "the child inherits from his father" the qualities that enable him to be this candle that illuminates, as specified by the Mishnah*, in Tractate Eduyos*, at the end of chapter 2. Consequently, the students of this Yeshivah* have the power and the strength to instill their qualities in their disciples (note 5: In this case, a former student of the Yeshivah Tomchei Temimim instilling these qualities in his students at this school), on the condition that they make an effort in this direction, with self-sacrifice and devotion, as a father would do for his son. This is self-evident. I hope that you benefited from the luminous day of 19 Kislev* also in this domain. You will do likewise for the period of Chanukah*, which approaches. You will make an addition to all this and you will meet with success. With my blessing of success in all these points and to give good tidings,

בענג קראתי מסדר פעולותיו במוסד הק', ואזכירו עוד הפעם על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, שיהי' בהצלחה מתאים לרצון רבותינו נשיאינו, שיהיו נרות להאיר, אשר אף שלראשונה ובתחלה אמרו זה ביחוד על תלמידי תומכי תמימים, אבל הרי המלמד את בן חבירו תורה מעלה עליו הכתוב כאילו ילדו, והבן יורש מאביו תכונות הנדרשות לנרות להאיר, כמובן מהמשנה, עדיות סוף פרק ב', שעפי"ז מובן שהתמימים ביכולתם ובכחם לעשות גם תלמידים כיוצא בהם, ובלבד שישתדלו בזה במסירה ונתינה כדרך פעולת האב בבן, וק"ל.

תקותי שניצלו יום הבהיר י"ט כסלו גם בעבודה האמורה וגם ימי חנוכה הבע"ל יוסיפו בכל הנ"ל ובהצלחה.
