Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7124 — Faith & Bitachon
Volume 19 · Letter 93 · To: grand Rav
By the grace of Hashem,
17 (note 1: The Rebbe writes Tov, good, a word whose numerical value is seventeen) Kislev* 5720,
Brooklyn,
To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, devotes
himself to communal needs, possesses virtuous conduct
and manifold activities, a man of quality, descended from an illustrious
family, Rav Yitzchak Meir HaCohen (note 2: Rav I. M. Lewin, of Yerushalayim*. See, on this subject, letter no. 7054),
I greet you and bless you,
I am following up on my previous correspondence and I address you regarding a point that is timely. These days indeed precede 19 Kislev*, which is, in the words of the Alter Rebbe*, the great Hilloula* of our holy master (note 3: The Maggid* of Mezeritch). It is also the day of his own liberation and, as the Rebbe (note 4: Rashab*), father of my father-in-law, the Rebbe (note 5: Rayatz*), said: "The festival during which 'He redeemed our soul in peace' — the light and vitality of our spirit were granted to us." It is therefore fitting to recall once more the necessity of disseminating the wellsprings (note 6: Of Chassidus*) to the outside, according to the expression of the Baal Shem Tov*, in his well-known epistle.
Upon anyone who has had the merit of tasting Chassidus*, this sacred obligation and merit are incumbent. How much more is this the case for those who, through Divine Providence, can influence a wide circle. For them, such a necessity is even greater. Moreover, by abstaining from acting in this domain, or even, in the expression of our Sages*, by not acting as one should have, one seems to join the opponents and those who wish to disturb such activity. I know your enthusiasm and, if you wish to make full use of it, I have good hope that your accomplishments in this matter will meet with success and will enable the dissemination of the wellsprings, to the outside. May Hashem grant that the promise expressed in the response of the king Moshiach* be fulfilled very soon, as reported in the well-known letter of the Baal Shem Tov*: "The master shall come." I hope you will not hold it against me for writing to you about this and, above all, that I will have good tidings in this regard. With my respects and my blessing,
