I greet you and bless you,

You write to me about the hairs of the beard (note 1: See, on this subject, letter no. 7111). On this matter, you will explain to your wife, may Hashem grant her long life, what the Tzemach Tzedek*, Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah* and of its profound dimension, says in the most decisive manner, in his Reshimos on Tehillim*, published in Brooklyn in 5713 (note 2: 1953): "It is from the thirteen corrective elements of the beard (note 3: To the extent that they are concerned) that the immense compassion of Hashem emanates, of which it is said: 'He is merciful.' Through these elements of the beard, severity is softened and everything becomes pleasant and sweet."
