I greet you and bless you,

I duly received your letters of 22 and 29 Marcheshvan*, as well as of 1 Kislev*:

A) I must clarify the following point. The work of male and female teachers, and all the more so of school directors, can in no way be based solely on submission, as several Chassidic* texts also specify. One can verify in practice that success is possible only to the extent that one acts with joy and enthusiasm, with a feeling of pleasure. The administration must necessarily maintain a friendly relationship with each person and, obviously, a peaceful one, even if it is convinced of being entirely right, while the others are totally at fault. How much more so if a doubt remains on this matter. I am writing all this to you because I receive bitter letters from several schools of the network (note 1: Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak* in the Holy Land), even though the arguments presented are not the same. Nevertheless, the common element among them, in the majority of cases, is the absence of any perception of interest in their concerns, of a desire to help them, on the part of the administration or the local director — when this correspondence comes from the teachers — or on the part of these teachers, if it was sent by the directors. Of course, the bitterness is not the same in all these letters and is not expressed with the same force or frequency. Without a doubt, reflection on all this will allow an immediate evolution in this domain. Indeed, the reward of one who knows how to yield is the revelation of the thirteen Attributes of mercy, of which our Sages* say that they suffer no limitation (note 2: They can therefore resolve all difficulties). This is self-evident.

B) It seems that one of the reasons for this bitterness is the delay in salary payment, from time to time. I would like to know whether a loan fund has been established for the male and female teachers, functioning through a system of advances on the current month's salary. This would therefore be a loan for a few days, a week or two at most. Would this be useful? To the extent possible, it will be established that the loan be repaid without constraint, the guarantee being the check that will be sent with this transfer. This is self-evident. We are in the month of Kislev*, that of miracles and redemption — the festivals of 10 and 19 Kislev* (note 3: Liberation of the Mitteler Rebbe* and of the Alter Rebbe* from the Czarist prisons), concluding with Chanukah*, and the Halachah* is decided according to the opinion of Beis Hillel*, which advocates an ever-increasing number (note 4: Of candles, kindled each evening for the festival). You will therefore give me good tidings of all that concerns the dissemination of Yiddishkeit* and the dissemination of the wellsprings (note 5: Of Chassidus*), in a visible and tangible good, in which the light will be ever increasing. With my blessing to give good tidings,

I have just received your letter of 5 and 8 Kislev*, as well as the report of 23 and 26 Tishrei*, 10 and 21 Marcheshvan*, first day of Rosh Chodesh* Kislev*.

ב) עוד נקודה עלי להעיר והיא, שכיון שעבודת המורים-ות ועאכו"כ המנהלים, אי אפשר שתהי' מבוססת אך ורק על קבלת עול, וכמבואר בכ"מ גם בתורת הדא"ח, ונראה זה במוחש שאפשר שתהי' מוצלחה אך ורק באם תעשה בשמחה ובטוב לבב וברגש של תענוג, מוכרח שיחס ההנהלה עם כאו"א תהי' בדרכי נועם, ופשיטא בדרכי שלום, אפילו באם ההנהלה סוברת שצדקה במאה אחוז והם אשמים במאה אחוז, ומי יאמר אם קצת ספק בדבר.

והביאני לכתוב האמור, כי מקבל הנני מכתבי התמרמרות מכמה בתי ספר הרשת, אף שמחולקים בהטענות שבהם, אבל הצד השוה ברובא דרובא, שאין מרגישים יחס של השתתפות בעניניהם והרצון לעזור להם וכו' וכו' אם מצד [ה]הנהלה או מצד המנהל במקום (במכתבי המורים-ות) או מצד המורים-ות (במכתבי המנהלים), אף כי כמובן לא בכל המכתבים ההתמרמרות שוה ובאותה התקיפות ותכיפות.

ובודאי בהתבוננות יש למצוא דרך להזזה מידית בהאמור והרי שכר המעביר על מדותיו הוא המשכת י"ג מדה"ר כפסק דין רז"ל שהם בלי גבוליות, וק"ל.

ג) כנראה אחת הסיבות להתמרמרות היא, עכוב המשכורת לפעמים, ואתענין לדעת באם ייסדו קופה שהיא תלוה להמורים-ות ע"ח המשכורת שתתקבל בחדש זה עצמו, ז.א.

הלואה לאיזה ימים או לשבוע ושבועים לכל היותר, היש תועלת בזה? ואם אפשר להבטיח (באווארענען) שישולם החוב מבלי כל עכוב, ז.א. שיהי' מובטח ע"ז הטשעק המתקבל מהמשרדים וק"ל...

וכיון שנמצאים אנו בחדש כסלו, חדש הנסים והגאולה ובו המועדים דיו"ד וי"ט כסלו, וסיומו בימי חנוכה דהלכה כב"ה דמוסיף והולך, הנה יבשרו טוב בכל הענינים דהפצת היהדות והפצת המעינות בטוב הנראה והנגלה שמוסיפים באור הלוך והוסיף.
