I bless you and greet you (note 1: This letter is addressed to a young girl),

I am responding to your letter of 27 Tishrei* (note 2: The Rebbe writes Zach, meaning pure, a term whose numerical value is 27) (note 3: See, in this regard, letter no. 6877). In fact, no question arises, and I am surprised that you speak to me about your studies in this discipline but say nothing about what is the essential study of every Jewish man and woman — that of our holy Torah*, Torah* of life, which means, in the most literal sense, that it delivers a teaching for life, for daily existence, since it allows one to know what one must do and what is forbidden.

Moreover, you find yourself in a land that the nations of the world themselves call "the Holy Land" and that the verse describes thus: "A land toward which the eyes of Hashem are always directed, from the beginning of the year to the end of the year." The scrupulous practice of the mitzvos* must therefore, in this place, be all the stronger. Without a doubt, you will specify all this to me at the next opportunity. I send you my blessing of success in study and for conduct befitting a Jewish girl, who is defined as a descendant of Sarah*, Rivkah*, Rochel*, and Leah*. With my blessing to give good tidings,

לפלא שכותבת אודות לימודה בשטח האמור ואינה מזכירה אודות הלימוד העיקרי של כל אחד ואחת מישראל, הוא לימוד תורתנו הק' תורת חיים, שתוכן שם זה כפשוטו, הוראה בחיים, והכוונה לחיי היום יומים, לדעת את המעשה אשר יעשון ואלה אשר לא תעשינה, ובפרט שהרי נמצאת היא בארץ אשר גם אומות העולם קורין לה בשם ארץ הקדושה ונאמר ארץ אשר עיני ה' אלקיך בה מראשית השנה ועד אחרית שנה, שמזה מובן שהזהירות בקיום המצות צריך להיות בארץ זו פי כמה וכמה ובטח תמלא על דבר זה בהזדמנות הבאה.

בברכת הצלחה בלימוד ובהנהגה מתאימה לבת ישראל שכל אחת מהן נקראת בת שרה רבקה רחל ולאה.
