By the grace of Hashem,

To the great Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem, of

good conduct and multiple accomplishments,

Rav Yosef Eliyahu (note 1: Rav Y. E. Henkin, of New York. See, regarding him, letter no. 4946),

I greet you and bless you,

I have just received your letter and, as you request, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write to me. And since you transmitted this request to me, may Hashem grant that you also give me good tidings of it. The merit of your actions in supporting the Torah*, even more than your personal study, will protect you, without a doubt, as well as the members of your family, in this matter.

As the Alter Rebbe* emphasizes (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 6566), author of the Tanya* and Decisor of the hidden part of the Torah*, author of the Shulchan Aruch* and Decisor of the revealed part of the Torah*, in his Chassidic* discourse entitled: "She (note 3: The Torah*) is a tree of life for those who grasp her," delivered on Simchas Torah* 5540 (note 4: 1779), this expression applies to those who study the Torah* and approach it intellectually, whereas: "those who support her are happy" (note 5: The conclusion of the same verse) refers to those who serve Hashem by devoting themselves to the Torah* and are truly happy. The Zohar*, volume 3, page 53b, specifies: "Do not read Me'ushar, happy, but Me'rosho, at its head" — that is, at the inner dimension of the Ein Sof*, which such a form of service of Hashem enables one to reveal here below, according to the quality of the foot that supports the head. וזכות פעולותיו באופן דתמכין דאורייתא, עוד יותר מאשר לימודו לעצמו, בודאי שתעמוד לו ולב"ב שי' בהנ"ל.

וכמודגש במאמר רבנו הזקן בעל התניא - פוסק בנסתר דתורה - והשולחן ערוך - פוסק בנגלה דתורה - ד"ה עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה (שמח"ת תק"מ), אלו בעלי השגה הלומדים תורה, ותומכי' מאושר אלו בעלי עבודה העוסקים בתורה, מאושר, גליקלעך, כדאיתא בזהר (ח"ג דנ"ג ע"ב) א"ת מאושר אלא מראשו, דע"י עבודתם ממשיכים מראשו, היינו מפנימית הא"ס ב"ה, וכמעלת הרגל המקים את הראש דוקא.
