Igrot Kodesh · Letter 7051 — Tzedakah
Volume 19 · Letter 20
By the grace of Hashem,
18 Tishrei* 5720,
Brooklyn,
To the Rav*, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and
fulfills a sacred mission, Rav Baruch (note 1: Rav B. Pariz, of Kfar Chabad*. See, regarding him, letter no. 4246),
I greet you and bless you,
I am responding to your letter of 7 Tishrei*. At a propitious moment, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us. You tell me that you have not written to me in the past because you do not know what to do. You will understand that I am surprised by such a response, when the souls of tens of thousands of Jews in our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, thirst for the Word of Hashem as it is revealed by His servants, our holy leaders and masters — even though some are aware of this thirst while in others the body conceals it. It is clear that the compassion one must feel for the latter is all the greater.
By a kindness of Hashem, you have the merit of having been exposed to the teaching of our masters. Yet you write to me that you have nothing to do! It is surely unnecessary to say more, especially during the season of our rejoicing, when it is a Mitzvah* to gather the four species, representing the four categories of the Jewish people (note 2: See letter no. 7049). In this case, the essential idea is that the Mitzvah* of the Esrog* (note 3: Corresponding to the Jews who study Torah* and practice the mitzvos*) cannot be fulfilled in the absence of the willow (note 4: Corresponding to the Jews who neither study Torah* nor practice the mitzvos*). This is self-evident. May Hashem grant that at least in the future, you meditate and act in order to disseminate the wellsprings (note 5: Of Chassidus*) to the outside. You will announce to me good tidings of a true good — good for the heavens and good for the creatures, a good that produces fruit, according to the expression of tractate Kiddushin* 40a. With my blessing to give good tidings and for a joyous festival.
Due to the sanctity of the festival, the Rebbe Shlita* did not sign this letter, and I therefore do so in his name,
The secretary,
E. Kwint,
