By the grace of Hashem,

6 Tishrei* 5720,

To the young man Adin (note 1: Rav A. Steinsaltz, of Yerushalayim*),

I greet you and bless you,

After a particularly long interruption, I have duly received your letter of 3 Tishrei*, and I mentioned your name on that day at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, that you be definitively sealed for a good year, in a visible and tangible good. Of course, true good is that which conforms to the teachings of our Torah*, about which it is said: "I have given you a good acquisition." This verse indeed alludes to the Torah*, given by the Creator of the world, Who directs it and Who is the Essence of good, all the more so since His Providence has granted you the capacity to exert an influence on others. Every addition on your part is therefore multiplied accordingly among those who are subject to this influence. It follows that the promise of our Sages* according to which "to whoever adds (note 2: Effort), it is added (note 3: Blessings)" applies most particularly in your case. Nothing withstands the will, but for this, an effort is necessary, which requires the greatest diligence. Moreover, our Sages* affirm that: "if one makes efforts, these are crowned with success."

You write to me that you are currently teaching in several villages of the Negev*, but you give me no details on this subject. In what framework do you provide this teaching, and what subject does it cover? I hope that you seize every occasion, every opportunity to spread true and traditional Yiddishkeit*, not only verbally but also through your action, for this is essential. No doubt you will transmit all these details to me next time. You will also tell me what your friends are doing in this matter. According to what I know, indeed, a group of young men and also of young women had been formed, with the objective of spreading Yiddishkeit*. I hope that you have a fixed time to study, for yourself, the revealed part of the Torah* and Chassidus*, and that you practice the mitzvos* in the best manner. As I said, this is particularly important in your case (note 4: Due to the influence exerted on others). May Hashem grant that you give me good tidings of this as well. You will also tell me that you maintain the three well-known studies, which bear on the Chumash*, the Tehillim*, and the Tanya*. With my blessing that you be definitively inscribed for a good year and that you give me good tidings,

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מג' תשרי והזכרתיו היום על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע לחתימה וגמר חתימה טובה בטוב הנראה והנגלה, ומובן אשר טוב האמיתי הוא המתאים להוראות תורתנו עלי' נאמר כי לקח טוב נתתי לכם, היא התורה הנתנה לנו מבורא עולם ומנהיגו שהוא עצם הטוב, ובפרט אשר השגחה העליונה חוננה אותו בכח השפעה על הזולת, שלכן כל הוספה בו, נכפלת כמה פעמים במושפעיו, שמזה מובן שהבטחת חז"ל כל המוסיף מוסיפין לו ה"ה בתוקף ביותר בהנוגע אליו, ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, אלא שצ"ל השתדלות עד כדי ליגיעה וכהודעת חז"ל, יגעת ומצאת דוקא.

כותב, שמשמש כעת כמורה בכמה ישובים בנגב, אבל חסר כל ביאור בזה, באיזה מסגרת ואיזה לימודים וכו', אף שתקותי חזקה שמנצל כל הזדמנות ואפשריות להפצת היהדות האמיתית המסורתית לא רק בדברו אלא גם במעשה, שהרי המעשה הוא העיקר, ובטח ימלא ע"ד זה בהזדמנות הבאה וכן אודות עסקנות חבריו שי' בכגון דא, שכפי שידוע לי היתה חבורה בחורים וגם בחורות שמטרתן צ"ל הפצת היהדות.

תקותי חזקה שיש לו קביעות עתים לעצמו בלימוד התורה בנגלה וחסידות ומהדר בקיום המצות, וכנ"ל שחשוב הוא ביותר בהנוגע אליו, ויהי רצון שגם בזה יבשר טוב, וכן אשר שומר שלשת השיעורים דחומש תהלים ותניא הידועים.
