You were asked the following question (note 1: This letter is addressed to Rav Moshe Aharon Braudo, of Bnei Brak): It is said, sometimes, that thoughts, words, and actions are the garments of the soul, and sometimes, that these are comparable to the Attributes of the intellect, those of emotion, and those of action.

This is in no way contradictory. Thought is the garment of the intellect, speech is the garment of emotion, and action is the garment of concrete deed. In other words, the intellect reveals itself in thought (note 2: Which formalizes it), the emotions essentially through speech (note 3: Which has an accelerating role in relation to them). Finally, the revelation of the soul is through action. Now, the garment and the one who wears it unite. This is self-evident.

... במה ששאלוהו, שלפעמים כתוב אשר מחדו"מ הם לבושי הנפש, ולפעמים שהם בדוגמת חב"ד חג"ת ונהי"ם או חב"ד ז"א ומלכות.

אין בזה סתירה, כי המחשבה היא לבוש השכל, דבור לבוש המדות (ז"א), ומעשה גילוי לבוש המלכות. או במלות אחרות, השכל מתגלה במחשבה, המדות (בעיקרם) בדבור, וכח הגילוי בנפש בעיקרו מתגלה במעשה והרי הלבוש והמלובש מתאחדים, וק"ל.
