I greet you and bless you,

I am responding to your letter asking for a blessing. At a propitious moment, I will mention your name, as well as all those you cite, at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write in your letter.

You are considering changing the knot of your Tefillin* so that it conforms to the Chabad* custom. It is quite clear that this is advisable. You also wish to adopt the Chabad* prayer rite (note 1: Of the prayer). This is very positive. As is explained elsewhere (note 2: See, on this subject, letter no. 6704), one may pass from the Ashkenazi* rite to the Sephardi* rite and from the latter to the Arizal* rite — the one used by Chabad* Chassidim* — but not the reverse. If you decide to make this change in a permanent manner, this initiative will be advisable, as I told you, especially since, according to the tradition of the Chassidim*, the Alter Rebbe* established the text of the prayer by taking as reference sixty Siddurim*.

You are a Yeshivah* student and you formulate such a request (note 3: It must therefore be linked to the principal activity of the Yeshivah* — the study of the Torah*). You must therefore redouble your enthusiasm and ardor in the study of the Torah* and the practice of the mitzvos*, in the best possible manner. In addition to the intrinsic importance of all this, you will thus multiply the blessings of Hashem in all your needs and obtain the fulfillment of your heart's desire. With my blessing to give good tidings of all this, to be inscribed and sealed for a good year,

במענה למכתבו בקשת ברכה הפ"נ.

בעת רצון יזכירהו ואת כל אלה שכותב אודותם, על הציון הק' של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע מתאים לתוכן כתבו.

ובמ"ש אודות - שינוי קשר התפילין לקשר חב"ד - מובן שנכון הדבר.

ובמ"ש אודות השינוי לנוסח חב"ד, נכון הדבר במאוד, והנה ע"פ המבואר במ"א, מותר לשנות מנוסח אשכנז לספרד ומספרד סתם לנוסח האר"י שהוא הוא הנוסח שמתפללים בו חסידי חב"ד, אבל לא להיפך, ובכן אם יחליט הוא, לשנות הנוסח לתמיד , נכון הענין כאמור, ובפרט שע"פ מסורת חסידים, בירר רבינו הזקן הנוסח שלו מששים סידורים.

ומאחר שהוא בן ישיבה והוא המביא הבקשה, הנה מובן ופשוט שעליו להוסיף בהתמדה ושקידה בלימוד התורה ובקיום המצות בהידור, שמלבד גודל הענין מצד עצמו, הנה עי"ז מתוסף בברכות השי"ת בהמצטרך לו ובמילוי משאלות לבבו לטוב.
