and devotes himself to communal needs,

I greet you and bless you,

I have duly received your letter of 26 Menachem (note 2: Av*). As you ask me, I will mention all those you cite at the holy resting place of my father-in-law, the Rebbe, whose merit protects us, in accordance with what you write to me.

We (note 3: This paragraph is inserted in letters addressed to many people, with the references indicated below. One of them was sent to Rav* David Nosson Lesser, who regularly sent Tzitzis* threads to the Rebbe) are approaching Elul*, the month of compassion and a propitious time. As Likkutei Torah* of the Alter Rebbe* explains (note 4: In particular, at Parshas Re'eh*, page 32a), the thirteen Attributes of Divine Mercy shine then (note 5: The Holy One, blessed be He, then wrapped Himself in a Tallis* bearing Tzitzis*, like a prayer leader, according to Tractate Rosh Hashanah* 17a. You will therefore give me good tidings of your communal accomplishments and your personal concerns, in a visible and tangible good. With my blessing to give good tidings,
