To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself

to communal needs, Rav* David (note 1: Rav* D. Helman, of Tel Aviv. See, concerning him, letters nos. 5050 and 7000),

I greet you and bless you,

You are considering printing, here, certain discourses that are, moreover, written in the Holy Tongue. This entails numerous difficulties, especially if one takes into account the content of the discourses about which you inquire. This is self-evident. One must therefore endeavor to do so locally. There, in addition to the other advantages, one is accustomed to the language of the youth, who evolve more easily than those of mature age. Indeed, a change is the expression of regret, an admission that one has not had good conduct or that it was imperfect for decades. This is obvious. Certainly, Teshuvah* is effective even at eighty years of age, as our Sages* emphasize. It transforms a man from one extreme to the other, leading him from the deepest pit to the highest summit. Moreover, Likkutei Torah*, at the beginning of Parshas Haazinu*, specifies that it is a return (note 2: Of the soul) to Hashem Who gave it. But this restitution takes place while the soul is still in the body, physically living in this world (note 3: It does not compromise physical integrity). You will consult this text.

I conclude as I began, since your letter was written on the eve of 15 Av* and our Sages* say: "Yisrael had no festival like the 15th of Av*." Now, when these days are "commemorated," they are also "relived" (note 4: In the same manner as the first time). You will therefore also give me good tidings of all that concerns you, in both the personal and communal domains. I send you my blessing to give good tidings and I express to you my wishes of Mazel Tov*, on the occasion of the birth of your daughter, Aryela, to whom Hashem will grant long life. ואף שאפשר שענין התשובה מועיל אפילו לאחר שמונים שנה כמסופר בחז"ל, והופך את האדם מן הקצה אל הקצה, מעומק תחת עד לעומק רום, ובפרט ע"פ המבואר בלקו"ת ריש פרשת האזינו ענין התשובה - שהיא ההשבה אל האלקים אשר נתנה, השבה בעת היותה נשמה בגוף ובחיים חיותו בעלמא דין עיי"ש.

ובחתימה מעין הפתיחה שכתב מכתבו בערב ט"ו באב, אשר כמסופר ברז"ל לא היו ימים טובים לישראל כט"ו באב וכו' והרי הימים האלה (כשהם) נזכרים (ה"ה גם) ונעשים, הנה יבשר טוב גם בעניניו הפרטים והכללים גם יחד.

בברכה לבשו"ט ובברכת מזל טוב להולדת הנכדה אריאלה שתליט"א, ויה"ר שהורי' יגדלוה לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים.
