To the young man, assuming a sacred mission,

Yosef Yehudah (note 1: Y. Y. Marton, of Lod. See, concerning him, letter no. 6511),

I greet you and bless you,

After a particularly long interruption, I have duly received your letter of 2 Menachem (note 2: Av*), in which you describe to me, in a particularly concise manner, your activity of recent months. You tell me that you are unable to maintain contact with those whom you have met and influenced. I hope that you will overcome this deficiency or, more precisely, that you will awaken hidden strengths that will enable you to do so, in order to maintain this relationship. Indeed, the first contact is like a plowing or, at most, like a planting. The objective and the purpose are, of course, agricultural production — the fruits. And, "what are the fruits? They are the mitzvos*," whose foundation is the fear of Hashem, as it is said: "Fear Hashem and observe His mitzvos*, for this is the whole of man." Now, if in all domains it is said that nothing withstands the will, how much more is this the case when one has already observed fruits, the result of one's impact. Indeed, a man feels compassion for what he accomplishes with his own hands. Moreover, he wishes that it grow and develop.

You are considering organizing a Chabad* choir that would know the Chabad* melodies. This is particularly advisable. You know what my father-in-law, the Rebbe, related about such a choir that functioned at the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* in Lubavitch. His words can be found in the index of the Sefer HaNiggunim*, volume 1. It is particularly desirable that this be attended to now, so that this choir be well organized for the month of Tishrei* (note 3: For the Chassidic* farbrengens* organized during this month) and perhaps even for 18 Elul*, if a Chassidic* farbrengen* is organized on this luminous day of the revelation of the two great luminaries (note 4: The Baal Shem Tov* and the Alter Rebbe*). Of course, you have the authorization and the merit of conveying all this to the Chassidim* who can help or who may be able to do so. Our Sages* say (note 5: See, on this subject, letter no. 6527): "Honor Hashem with your throat" (note 6: By singing), or at least with an effort (note 7: To help those who sing). With my blessing to give good tidings of all this,

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מב' לחדש מנחם ר"פ בקיצור הכי נמרץ מפעולותיו במשך החדשים שעברו, ובודאי למרות שכותב שחסרה לו התכונה להמשיך בקישור עם אלו שנפגש והשפיע עליהם, מתגבר על חסרון זה, או יותר נכון מעורר מכחות הנעלמים שבו שיבואו בפועל בכיוון האמור, ז.א. להמשיך הקישור, שהרי מגע הראשון הוא בדוגמת חרישה ולכל היותר זריעה, והכוונה והתכלית ה"ה התבואה והפירות כמובן, ומאי פרי מצות ויסודם יראת שמים, וכמ"ש את האלקים ירא ואת מצותיו שמור כי זה כל האדם, ואם בכל הענינים אמרו אין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון, עאכו"כ בענין שראה פירות פרי טוב בעמלו ואדם חס על מעשי ידיו, ואדרבה רוצה שיפרח וישגשג...

במ"ש אודות ארגון מקהלה מבני חב"ד בנגוני חב"ד, נכון הדבר במאד מאד, וידוע מה שכ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר סיפר בזה בהנוגע למקהלה שהיתה בתומכי תמימים דליובאוויטש, הועתק ג"כ במפתח לספר הנגונים חלק א', ומהרצוי ביותר שיתעסקו בזה עתה, בכדי שתהי' מאורגנת ככל הדרוש לחדש תשרי הבע"ל ואולי גם לח"י אלול, באם תהי' התועדות, ליום בהיר זה בו נתגלו שני המאורות. ומובן שמרשותו ומזכותו למסור דברי אלו לאנ"ש היכולים ומסוגלים לסייע בהאמור, אם ע"ד מרז"ל כבד את ה' - מגרונך או עכ"פ בטרחתם.
