Igrot Kodesh · Letter 6943 — Faith & Bitachon

By the grace of Hashem,

18 Tammuz* 5719,

Brooklyn,

To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem and devotes himself

to communal needs, Rav* Ephraim (note 1: Rav* E. Wolf, of Lod. See, concerning him, letter no. 3904),

I greet you and bless you,

A) I have duly received your letter of 14 Tammuz*, with what was enclosed. No doubt someone will write to me about the Chassidic* farbrengen* of the days of the deliverance (note 2: In order to give an account of it).

B) You envision the compilation of a collection of Talmudic analyses (note 3: Written by the students of the Yeshivah of Lod). No doubt this was conveyed to you in my name (note 4: The Rebbe himself requesting such a publication. See, on this subject, letters nos. 6966 and 6997). If you find at least one or two people (note 5: Among the students of the Yeshivah) who take interest in it, this will surely give an impetus to other students, for, as our Sages* say, "rivalry among scholars multiplies wisdom."

C) You allude to the students of the network's schools (note 6: Ohalei Yosef Yitzchak* Lubavitch in the Holy Land). Now, I have already been written to, in a letter of which the director of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* (note 7: That is, Rav Wolf himself) was, it seems to me, himself the signatory, that it was decided that one of the teachers, the dean, or one of the study supervisors of this Yeshivah* would visit these schools (note 8: In order to determine which students are fit to join the Yeshivah). This is obviously the best preparation for attracting the network's students to the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* or to the vocational schools.

D) It is quite clear that there is no reason to organize secular studies within the Yeshivah*. It seems to me that we have already spoken about this several times. There must exist a distinction between an institution in which secular sciences are taught and the Yeshivah*. There must even be a distance between the one and the other so that this difference is evident.

It was very pleasant for me to learn of the opening of the vacation camp. You have surely received my letter, sent some time ago, on this subject. With my blessing for success and to give good tidings of all this,

For the Rebbe Shlita*,

the secretary,
