To the directors of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*

of Lod, may Hashem grant you long life,

I greet you and bless you,

I have received, from various sources, information according to which students and young men have requested to be admitted to the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* and could not be received due to lack of space. I do not know to what extent this is accurate. If it is indeed the case, the reason given may have been a pretext, or perhaps there was another motivation.

In any event, the purpose of the present letter is to make the following remark. If this reason is accurate, it is clear that it should not stand. Even if, concretely, there is no room for these students, an immense effort is necessary in this matter. It seems to me that I have said several times that in our era, a student requesting admission to an institution must be treated with the greatest eagerness. In fact, everywhere, and particularly in the Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, if one does not quickly engage in reflection on this question, giving it all the attention it deserves, one may envision that these students will very quickly be admitted to another institution that will not suit them. It is, of course, unnecessary to say more. Given the importance of the matter, this letter is sent to you by express mail, and I await good tidings.

קבלתי ידיעות מאיזהו מקומן, שתלמידים ונערים בקשו להתקבל בישיבת תומכי תמימים, ולא נתקבלו מפני חוסר מקום.

הנה איני יודע נכונות הדבר, ואפילו באם הן, באם טעם האמור הי' לכסות עינים או שהיתה איזה מניעה אחרת.

ולא באתי אלא להעיר, שאם טעם הנ"ל הוא טעם האמיתי, מובן שאין לו כל שחר, כי אפילו באם בפועל אין מקום ומציאות לאכסן התלמידים וכיו"ב, מוכרח ההשתדלות בזה כו"כ, וכמדומה שמדובר כ"פ שבזמננו תלמיד הרוצה להתקבל במוסד, הענין זקוק לטפול מזורז, שהרי בכל מקום ובפרט באה"ק ת"ו באם לא ידונו על הענין בכובד ראש, ותומ"י, אפשר שלאחרי שעה קלה, כבר יוקלט באיזה מוסד הבלתי רצוי, ובודאי שהאריכות בדבר אך למותר.

ולחשיבות הענין נשלח המכתב מהיר דחוף ואצפה לבשו"ט.
