To the Rabbi, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem,
Rav Saadya [1],

Greetings and blessings,

I reply to your letter of 7 Menachem Av. I was pleased to learn that the collection of Maamad* [2] was going well, as before. You are no doubt referring to chapter 14 of Iggeres HaKodesh, according to which, each day, a new light is revealed, which has never before illuminated the world since creation. This text well establishes that it is so each day and not only on Rosh Hashanah.

Maamad enables one to attach oneself to the Tree of Life by all five parts of one's soul — Nefesh, Ruach, Neshamah, Chayah, and Yechidah [3] — by one's body and by one's animal soul. This is what Tanya* and Iggeres HaKodesh explain regarding Tzedakah*, which is called "the Mitzvah," without further specification.

You will therefore endeavor that it be so — that is, not only that the collection be as good as before, but also that it increase and develop.

I have received the list of Maamad for the month of Tammuz, and the receipts you requested have surely already been sent to you.

On the other hand, I have not yet received the lists of the Merkaz L'Inyanei Chinuch and of Machneh Israel [4]. Indeed, Rav B. G. [5] has not yet given his agreement for their concrete application.

I conclude by greeting your entire community, extending to you my blessing of success for your sacred mission, consisting in attaching the Chassidim, materially and spiritually, to their head, my father-in-law, the Rebbe, and awaiting your good news,

במענה על מכתבו מיום ז' מנחם אב, שמחתי לשמוע כי עסק הנפנה מתנהג בכי טוב כמקדם. ובודאי נשען על הכתוב באגה"ק סי"ד אשר בכל יום ויום נמשך אור חדש עליון יותר שלא הי' מאיר עדיין מימי עולם (מובן שם שאין זה רק בראש השנה אלא גם בכל יום ויום), הנה גם בענין נפנה שזהו ענין ההתקשרות לאילנא דחיי בכל נר"ן וח"י וגוף ונפש בהמית כמובן ממה שנתבאר בתניא ובאגה"ק במעלת מצות הצדקה, שנקראת מצוה סתם, בטח ישתדל שיהי' באופן זה, היינו שיהי' לא רק טוב כמקדם, אלא הולך וטוב בתוספות עליון יותר.

רשימת נפנה מתמוז נתקבלה, ובטח כבר נשלח לו הקבלות שביקש.

רשימות מל"ח ומחנה עדיין לא נתקבלו, כן חסר עדיין האישור מהרה"ח והרה"ג וכו' הרב"ג שי' על דבר הבפועל ממש.
