To the great Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Mordechai (note 1: Rav M. Perlov. See, on his subject, Letter no. 6256) HaCohen,

Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have received your letter of 25 Shevat*, describing very briefly, in a few lines, the Chassidic* farbrengen* of 10 Shevat* (note 2: Hilloula* of the Previous Rebbe*). You will understand that I am surprised by this.

You also write me a few lines to describe what needs to be repaired in the city. You tell me that it is impossible to determine with precision what must be done to restore the Mikveh*. This is astonishing, for from time to time, the water must indeed be changed. One can then see what the situation is. The latter Sages* explain at length that regarding a Mikveh*, one does not apply the rule according to which one must not take the risk of calling into question what was done previously (note 3: In this case, giving the impression that the previous ritual immersions in this Mikveh* were not valid. This rule therefore does not apply and, consequently, if it turns out that the Mikveh* was not conforming, it will indeed be necessary to notify that the immersions that took place there are not valid). You do not speak of your state of health or that of your wife. This surely means that all is well. With my blessing to convey good news of all this,

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך, נתקבל מכתבו מכ"ה שבט, ר"פ בשורות הכי ספורות, בהנוגע להתועדות דיו"ד שבט.

ומובן שלפלא הדבר.

וכן איזה שורות מהצריך תקון בעיר, ולפלא מה שכותב שאי אפשר לדעת בדיוק ובפרטיות התיקון בהמשכת המקוה - שהרי בודאי מזמן לזמן מוכרח להחליף המים וכו' ורואים איך שנעשה הענין.

וכבר האריכו באחרונים, שבענין מקוה, אין חל הגדר שלא להוציא לעז על הראשונים.

כיון שאין מזכיר בהנוגע לבריאותו ובריאות זוגתו תחי', בטח הכל בסדר.
