To the Rav, distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and devotes himself to communal needs, Rav Yosef Chaim (note 1: Rav Y. Ch. Rosenfeld, of San Francisco. See, on his subject, Letter no. 6612) HaCohen, and his wife, Rebbetzin* Malka Raizel,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received your letter of 25 Shevat*, together with what was enclosed therein. You briefly describe your sacred activities, and may Hashem* grant that, always and every day, you convey good news to me of your communal accomplishments and your personal achievements.

You ask me whether you should accept being one of the advisors of the kashrus* committee. If this committee is based on sacred values — in other words, if it is Orthodox, or at the very least claims to be Orthodox — you will accept this proposal. On the other hand, as I have already written to you, you will not figure among those who guarantee this kashrus*. This is self-evident.

You also ask me about marriages (note 2: The addressee of this letter was asking the Rebbe* for authorization to perform them). You have received rabbinical ordination and, from time to time, you surely review the laws. If the marriage takes place properly, that is, under the conditions you describe, you may perform it.

I was satisfied to read at the conclusion of your letter that you are publishing an article on current events (note 3: Of the Torah* — the Parshah* of the week and the festivals) in a newspaper that is published in your city. May Hashem* grant that this also be a means of spreading the wellsprings (note 4: Of Chassidus*), in particular, and that this be done in joy and enthusiasm. With my blessing to convey good news of all this,

בו כותב ר"פ מפעולותיו בקדש, ויהי רצון שתכה"י יבשר טוב מענינים הכללים ומעניניו הפרטים.

ובמענה לשאלתו, באם יהי' אחד היועצים של ועד הכשרות.

באם ועד זה הוא עטה"ק, ז.א. מאורתו[דו]כסים, עכ"פ זוהי שיטתן, יקבל הצעה זו, אבל כמו שכתבתי, לא יהי' מהמכשירים, וק"ל.

בשאלתו בהנוגע לסידור קדושין.

הנה כיון שיש לו סמיכה לרבנות, ובטח מזמן לזמן חוזר על הלכות, הרי באם החתונה היא כדבעי, ז.א. באותו התנאי שכותב, יכול לעשות את זה.

נהניתי מסיום מכתבו, שמזמן לזמן יפרסם בעתון המודפס במחנם הט' מענינא דיומא.

ויהי רצון שגם זה יהי' אחד האמצעים להפצת היהדות בכלל והפצת המעינות ביחוד, ויהי רצון שיהי' זה מתוך שמחה וטוב לבב...
