To the distinguished Chassid* who fears Hashem* and carries out a divine mission, Rav Yaakov (note 1: Rav Y. Peles, of Tel Aviv. See, on his subject, Letters no. 5365 and 6729),

Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have received your letter of 10 Shevat*, date of the Hilloula* of my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, together with what was enclosed therein. The message it contained was the following. Upon leaving the country from which you originate — Romania — you visited Kiryat Gat, where a large part of the community originating from that country has settled. You found there broad possibilities for the creation of a Yeshivah* (note 2: See, on this subject, Letter no. 6729), which would be one aspect of the work of commemoration of the memory of the students of the Yeshivah* of Kishinev (note 3: In Romania, before the war). The spirit will be that of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim*, and it will even officially be a department of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* of Lod. However, the name of Chabad* will not be mentioned there for the time being, until a better understanding is gained there of what this term encompasses.

You say that broad possibilities exist, and you have therefore surely conducted an investigation in the appropriate manner. Indeed, it is not sufficient, in order to create a Yeshivah*, to observe the presence of a certain population. It is further necessary that this population seek a religious education. Furthermore, one can assume that the left-wing parties will not remain idle, that they will conduct a campaign (note 4: Against the creation of this Yeshivah*), as they have always done in such cases. This is quite evident. Likewise, what concerns Kishinev in the domain of Chabad* was entrusted until now to the Yeshivah* Achei Temimim* of Rishon LeZion. Now, you have committed yourself to raising funds for this institution, and you do not clearly specify in your letter how you will ensure that there is no confusion between these two undertakings.

Third point: such an enterprise — the creation and constitution of a Yeshivah*, and then its direction — requires attention and zeal, especially in the early stages. One must therefore be practically certain of the organizational structure that will be adopted. You have surely given thought to this. If, in all these domains, every detail appears satisfactory to you, you must devote yourself to this undertaking and to what follows from it, namely the gathering of those whose age corresponds to the schools of the network (note 5: The network of the Oholei Yosef Yitzchak* Lubavitch schools in the Holy Land), within a structure that will itself be integrated into this network. לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו מיו"ד שבט, יום ההילולא של כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע נשיא ישראל, עם המצורף אליו, ותוכנו:

בקשר עם העלי' ממדינתו לפנים רומיניא, אשר חלק חשוב מהם מתיישב

בקרית-גת, וביקר שם, ורואה סיכוים טובים לייסד שם ישיבה, בתור חלק מפעל הנצחת תלמידי ישיבת קישינוב, ויהי' זה ברוחה של ישיבת תומכי תמימים וגם יורו בפירוש שזהו סניף מסונף לישיבת תו"ת דלוד, אבל עד שתהי' להם יותר הכרה טובה בעניני חב"ד, לע"ע לא לפרט המלה חב"ד.

ובטח בכתבו שיש סיכוים טובים, הרי זה לאחרי חקירה ודרישה ככל הצורך בזה, שהרי ליסוד ישיבה אינו מספיק מספר אוכלסים מסוים, כ"א גם צריך להיות רצון מצדם בחינוך דתי וכו' ובפרט שיש מקום לומר שהמפלגות השמאליות, לא ישבו בחבוק ידים וינהלו תעמולה, כמאז בכגון דא, וד"ל.

כן אינו ברור במכתבו, כיון שעד עתה בעניני קישינוב בשטח חב"ד, הי' זה שייך לישיבת אחי תמימים דראשון לציון, והתחייבו לגייס אמצעים לחיזוק אח"ת ברשל"צ, איך יסדרו שלא יבלבלו הענינים זל"ז.

ועוד בה שלישי'. מפעל כהאמור, ז.א. יסוד וארגון ישיבה ואחרי כן הנהלתה, דורשים שימת לב ומרץ וביחוד בתקופה הראשונה, שמזה מובן שצ"ל השערה קרובה לודאי, איך יארגנו זה... שבטח שם לב לזה.

אם בכל נקודות האמורות, הפרטים משביעים רצון, יש להתעסק בענין האמור, ובסניפו, ז.א. ארגון לגיל השייך לבתי ספר הרשת יהי' מסונף להרשת. ואחכה לבשו"ט בכל האמור. וכבקשתו נשלח המכתב מהיר, מבלי לחכות על התור.
