By the grace of Hashem*,

17 Shevat* 5719,

Brooklyn,

To the participants in the Chassidic* farbrengen* of the day of the Hilloula* (note 1: Of the Previous Rebbe*), tenth day of Shevat*, in the seventh year, that of the Shemittah*, 5719, in the city of Bnei Brak (note 2: An identical letter, sometimes written in Yiddish, was addressed to the participants in farbrengens* of other cities. See, on the same subject, the following letter), may Hashem* grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have received, with pleasure, the names of the participants in this gathering, that of each one and that of his mother. They will be mentioned at the holy resting place of the one whose Hilloula* we celebrate. Everything goes according to the conclusion, and it is a matter here of taking part in the Hilloula* of the Tzaddik*, prince of Israel and leader of the generation, who on this day receives an immense elevation, as various texts of Chassidus* explain.

The revealed part of the Torah* establishes that on the day of the Hilloula*, one recites the Kaddish* once more, including many years after the passing. Now, for every Jew, one ceases to say it after one year, for there is certainty that the sentence has already been applied (note 3: Whereas the Kaddish* is intended to soften it; that is why there is no longer reason to say it past that time). One must deduce from this that this new Kaddish* brings an additional elevation, particularly great, as the Arizal* says, cited by the Lechem HaPanim* and the Shiyurei Berachah* on the Shulchan Aruch*, Yoreh Deah*, at the end of chapter 376. And our Sages* observe that the righteous know no rest, neither in this world nor in the World to Come, as it is said: "They shall advance from one stage to the next."

The body follows the head, and all those who are linked, attached to him, within all of Israel, will follow him in his elevation, and they will receive from Above increased help and strength. As our Sages* affirm, "One comes to the aid of the one who wishes to purify." And the Likkutei Torah*, in the commentaries on Shemini Atzeres*, at page 89d, emphasizes that it indeed says here "purify" and not "purify oneself," which means that one must act upon the other — first upon the other that one has within oneself, upon one's body and one's animal soul, but also upon the other in the literal sense. For such is indeed the mission entrusted to the Chassidim*. With my respects and my blessing to convey good news, in joy and enthusiasm,
