By the grace of Hashem,

11 Menachem Av 5710,

To the young man, Chassid* who fears Hashem, ...

I greet you and bless you.

I reply to your letter of 7 Menachem Av. I learned with pleasure that you have found a place in which you can act on yourself and on others. You will surely know success, and I would be happy to receive good news of your actions.

You tell me that one sometimes boils unsupervised milk in the utensils used to cook for the students of the yeshivah. If this is indeed the case, you[1] can no doubt obtain, with your friends, food prepared in different vessels.

You no doubt remember our discussion before your trip, in which the necessity of rejecting all despair was emphasized. One must know that Hashem is the Essence of goodness, Who therefore desires to do good. Our Rebbeim gave themselves up to mark their love for their fellow and to accomplish their mission with kindness and mercy.[2] And it is said: "Serve Hashem with joy."

It would be good, on the occasion of Shabbos Nachamu — which is, this year, 15 Av — to organize a Chassidic gathering with the other young men.

במענה על מכתבו מז' מנחם אב, התענגתי לשמוע כי מוצא מקום עבודה לעשות עם עצמו וכן עם הזולת, ובודאי יהי' בהצלחה ואשמח לשמוע בשורות טובות מפעולותיו.

בנוגע לשאלתו על דבר זה שמבשלים לפעמים חלב עכו"ם בהכלים שמבשלים בעד כל הבחורים, הנה אם אמת הוא בודאי יוכלו לפעול הוא וחבריו לאכול ממה שנתבשל בכלים אחרים.

בטח זוכר מה שנדברנו קודם נסיעתו, אז מען דארף ניט זיין צופיל

מרה-שחורה'דיק, און מען דארף וויסן, אז דער אויבערשטער איז בטבע הטוב להיטיב, און די רביים האבן זיך אפגעגעבן אויף אהבת ישראל און אויף אויספירן זייערע ענינים בחסד וברחמים. ועבדו את הוי' בשמחה כתיב.
