Greetings and blessings,

After a particularly long interruption, I have received your letter of Motzaei Shabbos* Parshas* Mikeitz and the one that preceded it. You briefly describe your sacred actions within the community of Gibraltar. May Hashem* grant that you develop them widely, for we have received the Injunction to know elevation in the domain of holiness. And, as with every other Precept of Hashem*, Creator of the world, Who directs it, the strength and the means to comply with it have been granted to you from the outset, especially in communal domains, when the merit of the public comes to your aid. May Hashem* therefore grant that you be full of zeal, with joy and enthusiasm, which will, moreover, increase the success of your action. And you will convey good news to me of all this.

Although you do not specify it, I have good hope that you have a fixed time for the study of the inner teaching of the Torah* which, in our era, has been revealed through Chassidus*. At present, this (note 2: Establishing a fixed time for such study) is expected of everyone and, how much more so, of those who exert an influence within their community. Indeed, every personal addition will have an impact on its members and on their entire family. This is self-evident. I send you my respects and my blessing of Mazal Tov*, on the occasion of the birth of your son Mordechai, which you announce in your letter. You and your wife will raise him to Torah*, to the marriage canopy, and to good deeds. With my blessing to convey good news,

You speak of your efforts to found a secondary school. Nevertheless, the studies there will be mixed (note 3: Boys and girls will be mixed together), which is not the case at present (note 4: Perhaps in the primary school). If study in the public schools does not compel the students to transgress the holy Shabbos*, which Hashem* forbid, it is therefore preferable, for the time being, to do nothing (note 5: Not to create such a school).

לאחרי הפסק הכי ארוך נתקבל מכתבו ממוצש"ק מקץ והקודמו כו כותב ר"פ מפעולתו בקדש בקהלת גיברלטר.

ויהי רצון שיוסיף בזה כהנה וכהנה, שהרי נצטוינו מעלין בקדש, וככל ציווי השי"ת בורא עולם ומנהיגו הרי מראש נתנים הכחות והאפשריות למלאות הציווי, ובפרט בענינים הצבורים שזכות הרבים מסייעתו. ויהי רצון שיעשה בזה במרץ ומתוך שמחה וטוב לבב שגם זה מוסיף בהצלחת העבודה ויבשר טוב בכל האמור.

תקותי חזקה אף שאינו מזכיר עד"ז שקובע עתים בלימוד פנימיות התורה שבדורנו נתגלתה בתורת החסידות, אשר אם מכאו"א בתקופתנו זו נדרש זה עאכו"כ מכאלו שיש להם השפעה על נפש הישראלים בקהלתו, שכל הוספה בהם בעצמם ניכרת באנשי הקהלה הם וכל ב"ב שי' וק"ל.

בכבוד ובברכת מזל טוב להולדת הבן מרדכי שי', שמודיע אודותו במכתבו, ושהוא וזוגתו יגדלוהו עם בניהם שי' לתורה ולחופה ולמעשים טובים.
