Greetings and blessings,

I am responding to your letter of 12 Teves*. I read therein, with immense surprise, that you began reciting a Chassidic* discourse but were not permitted to complete it (note 1: Presumably on the occasion of a wedding). Some recommend such a manner of proceeding, in order not to embarrass (note 2: Those who are not able to learn a Chassidic* discourse by heart). However, we must adhere to the instruction of our leader (note 3: See, on this subject, Letter no. 5872), my father-in-law, the Rebbe*, whose merit will protect us, according to which one should first complete the recitation of the discourse, then, if one wishes to also respect the custom of one's surroundings, recite it again and interrupt it during this second time.

Several people currently residing in our Holy Land, may it be restored and rebuilt, were present at that time (note 4: When the Previous Rebbe* delivered this teaching). This was in Poland, in 5696 (note 5: 1936). I am surprised that they did not disseminate this practice. At least this will be done now. This is self-evident. With my blessing to convey good news,

בתמהון גדול קראתי אשר התחיל לחזור דא"ח אבל לא נתנו לו לגמור המאמר.

אשר אף שהמליצו בעד מנהג זה [בכדי שלא לבייש], גם בזה אנו אין לנו אלא הוראת נשיאנו כ"ק מו"ח אדמו"ר זצוקללה"ה נבג"מ זי"ע, אשר הורה לגמור המאמר כולו [והרוצה לצאת יד"ח מנהג הסביבה - להתחיל עוד הפעם ובפעם השני' להפסיק], והרי כמה מאלו הנמצאים באה"ק ת"ו היו גם באותו מעמד בפולין בשנת תרצ"ו, ולפלא שלא פרסמו הוראה זו, ועכ"פ כדאי לפרסמה עתה, וק"ל...
