To the leaders of the union of Yeshivah* students, may Hashem* grant you long life,

Greetings and blessings,

I have duly received your letter of 7 Teves*, with what was enclosed. I have also received, in recent days, a few copies of the Chassidic* discourse entitled 'Rabban Shimon Ben Gamliel says,' with the explanatory leaflet that accompanies it. I am somewhat surprised that the latter was not properly proofread. Thus, it states therein that the Tzemach Tzedek* was born in 5548, whereas the year 5549 should have been cited (note 1: 1788 instead of 1789. See, on this subject, the compilations of commentaries of Ohalei Torah*, fascicles no. 511, pages 28-35, and 512, pages 26-31). And one could mention still other points. This might appear of minor importance. Yet, in this case, it is a document of four pages that was distributed in several thousand copies. One must therefore, obviously, endeavor to correct and improve it to the fullest extent possible. This is self-evident.

I have already written, in my letter addressed to the young people of the Chabad* association (note 2: This refers to Letter no. 6265), that the time has finally come for the Chassidim* in general and for the students of the Yeshivah* Tomchei Temimim* in particular, not to limit themselves to plowing, sowing, and planting. One must, in addition, harvest and observe the good fruits of one's effort, in everything that concerns the Torah* and the Mitzvos*. I will not repeat these words here (note 3: Those that were written to the young people of the Chabad* association), for they are self-evident. I mean only to emphasize, by the present letter, that they pertain to you, and I do not say that they pertain to you 'also' (note 4: Which would mean: in the same capacity as others), for you are among the leaders of the action in this matter. This is self-evident. Nothing resists the will, and you know, in particular, the decision of the heavenly court according to which, thanks to the self-sacrifice displayed by the Alter Rebbe* for Chassidus* (note 5: During his imprisonment, which resulted in the festival of the liberation of 19 Kislev*), those who are bound to him and follow his path would have the upper hand in everything that concerns the Torah*, the fear of Hashem*, and good conduct. With my blessing of success in your sacred mission and to convey good news of all this,

ולפלא קצת שעלון ההסברה לא הוגה כל צרכו, ולדוגמא שנת הולדת הצ"צ תקמ"ח, וצ"ל תקמ"ט, ועוד. ואף שלכאורה דבר קטן הוא, עכ"ז בענין של ד' עמודים המתחלק באלפים טופסים, מובן שצריך להשתדל בתקונו ושיפורו במדה הכי גדולה, וק"ל.

כבר כתבתי במכתבי לצעירי אגו"ח, שמכבר בא הזמן שפעולות אנ"ש בכלל וביחוד דתלמידי תו"ת, לא תהיינה בסוג של חרישה זריעה ונטיעה, כ"א גם בגדר קצירה וראי' פרי טוב בעמלם, בדברים וענינים של תומ"צ. ולא אכפול כאן הדברים כיון שמובנים הם, ולא באתי אלא להדגיש השייכות אליהם (לא גם אליהם, שהרי הם מעסקנים הפועלים בזה, וק"ל). ואין לך דבר העומד בפני הרצון. ובפרט ע"פ הידוע פסק בית דין של מעלה, אשר בגלל המסירות נפש הלזו (של רבנו הזקן) על תורת החסידות, פסקו בבי"ד של מעלה אשר בכל ענין של תורה יראת שמים ומדות טובות תהי' יד מקושריו והולכי בעקבותיו על העליונה.
